All Saints' Sunday - Online Worship - November 1, 2020
Today, for all the saints, with all the saints, we gather in glory and grace, trusting The One who sets us apart, too, as saints, as signs of love, so we worship in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.
Friends: Our God, The Good Shepherd, is a faithful God. In Christ alone our souls are restored. Let us take a moment of silence with all the saints to confess our sins and those times we have not trusted The One who is our Rock, our Fortress, and our Might.
(silence for reflection)
Friends who trust The Good and Faithful Shepherd: The pastures are green once again; the waters have been made still. While we were still sinners, God made us saints, signs of love in the grace of these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. Trust the gifts of the Kingdom still to come! Live as saints here and now! Believe and sing, how great Thou art!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
You, saints, you, signs of love: The Spirit is in your midst each day, setting you apart in grace, guarding your life forever. As saints, in faith, give thanks, believe and sing, how great Thou art!
Almighty and loving God, today with all the saints, we thank you and praise you, for your abundant signs of love. By your Holy Spirit, you set us apart, and you bless us with your grace and so much more. Increase our faith, to make you and our neighbors first, to believe how great Thou art, to live anew in forgiveness, to boldly make known salvation and eternal life, to hold fast here and now to the hope and joy we have in you alone. With all the saints, in Jesus’s name, we pray. Amen.
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
(New Revised Standard Version)
Have you ever gone looking for one thing, and you find something else instead? Maybe you went to the store, looking for that product or brand you always get; suddenly you see something different, set apart, and it proves to be even better. Maybe you are moving, one community to another, or changing careers; hoping to find one thing or to re-establish another; it turns out different, better than you had hoped for. In our faith journey, we often go looking for Jesus in specific ways, and He often finds us in different and better ways than we thought possible. Long ago, people went looking for a savior. Jesus was set apart to be different from what people were hoping to find. As we celebrate All Saints' Sunday, as we read from Matthew, we see again, Jesus and Jesus' teaching are set apart to set apart Jesus, to be different than the people expected. Trust, celebrate, Jesus, God’s Perfect Sign Of Love, sets us apart in grace, as signs of love with all the saints! Thanks be to God!
1. As signs of love, we are set apart and blessed to be saints, a different kind of saint. Matthew 5:1-12; 1 John 3:2
A. We are set apart in a different way than the world does things.
B. We are God's children, signs of love, set apart in a different way.
2. As signs of love, we are saints, set apart and blessed to live a different life, to live in a different way, to live in grace! Matthew 5:3-12
A. What are you good at? How did you get good at it?
B. God sets us apart, invites us, empowers us, blesses us as signs of love to live in a different way. Life in Christ was never intended to be an obligation or conditional, rather set apart as a gift, an opportunity, overflowing with signs of love, benefits, filled with blessings, by grace to live in Christ!
3. As signs of love, we are set apart with a different calling. Revelation 7:12
A. The world tells us to be self serving. We are signs of love, set apart to live out a different calling.
B. We are signs of love, set apart, to see others, too, as signs of love!
4. As signs of love, we are saints, set apart, blessed to love our neighbor, to live, here and now, eternally, in a different sense of community. Revelation 7:9
A. God's Kingdom, here and now, for all eternity, is so much smaller than we think.
B. God's Kingdom, here and now, for all eternity, is far larger than we know.
5. As signs of love, we are set apart with a different peace, a different hope.
Revelation 7:9-17; 1 John 3:1-3; Psalm 23
A. The salvation we know that will be ours in The Lamb, what we will become, The Good Shepherd, gives eternal hope and peace.
B. As signs of love, set apart, the hope and peace to come, give hope and peace, here and now!
C. The saints above, the signs of love above, the angels, know what we will one day know; for now, we are jealous of the angels!
6. We are blessed with a grace and a Savior, God’s Perfect Sign Of Love, set apart as
saints. Are you looking for a specific Jesus, a specific Savior, a specific teaching? Trust, celebrate, in the grace of Jesus, with the power of The Spirit, we are signs of love, set apart in a different way than anyone could have anticipated. We love because God first loved us! We are forever saints, set apart, to be different in grace! Thanks be to God! Revelation 7:14; 1 John 3:1; Matthew 5:1-12

... As we pray to you, Jesus, ...
Bless us as your saints with your glory and grace.
Almighty God, in Jesus we know the resurrection and the life.
In you, even though we die, we will live, forever.
In you, even though we weep and our hearts are troubled, you give us faith to believe again.
In you, we have a dwelling place prepared by you just for us.
In you, we have the assurance our Savior will come again and bring us home.
In you, we have a Good Shepherd who watches over us and helps us lie down in green pastures and to once again walk by still waters.
In you, we have a rod and a staff which will comfort us in the midst of our darkest valleys in whatever life and death bring our way.
In you, we fear no evil, our cup overflows and we live with you our whole life long, we live in the house of The Lord, now and forever.
In you, we live a new life in The One who forever calls our name.
In you, we share our assurance, our conviction, our joy by telling others.
God of all goodness and every comfort, today as your people, together with all the saints who are set apart and called by name, we give thanks for those who have touched and filled and impacted our lives. We also gather to support one another through your Holy Spirit, as we remember the emptiness and the sorrow and the loss we feel because those we love have died.
Today we remember those servants already commended into your care, those lambs of your own flock received in mercy, those saints resting in light. Today we especially remember:(names read)
Lord, today we take a moment of silence to share with you others who we remember in our hearts at this time. (silence) Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom pray, trusting in your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ; thanking you for blessing us through the lives of others, for blessing us with the gift of life, strengthening us as the people of God, with the life giving treasurers of hope, peace and community; trusting anew you are forever with us as our lives continue.
Amen.
Holy Communion will take place after the singing of “Better Is One Day.” If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.
In order to better serve you in this troubling times, the way we receive Communion has changed slightly. You will be offered a self-contained Communion serving. Each capsule has two layers. The first layer is a thin, clear, cellophane layer which reveals the host. Under the second layer you will find the alcohol free juice. Volunteers will be happy to take you waste after you receive Communion.
The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you trust anew you are set apart with all the saints, in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, blessed to be God’s people, set apart with all the saints, together serving The Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!
