Come, Now Is the Time to Worship

Doerksen

Come
Now is the time to worship
Come
Now is the time to give your heart
Come
Just as you are to worship

Just as you are before your God Come

One day ev’ry tongue
Will confess You are God
One day ev’ry knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure
Remains for those
Who gladly choose You now

Just as you are to worship
Come
Just as you are before your God

Litany Trusting God’s Faithfulness In Each Breath

based on Psalm 66

Today we celebrate and trust anew, even though we can face question upon question, we take a fresh breath in grace trusting The One who is The Answer; so we come, now is the time to worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. Praise the Lord! Happy are all who fear the Lord! By grace we are changed by Christ to follow him from generation to generation, for we are blessed.

People of God: Jesus secures righteousness for those who put their trust in him. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have failed to trust the Lord of life.

(silence for reflection)

Friends in Christ, today take a deep breath in the Lord’s perfect grace in these words: Jesus saves, Jesus forgives you all your sins. In the midst of so many questions, we trust anew the One who changes our hearts!

Song of Grace Anew

Change My Heart, O God

Espinosa

Change my heart O God
Make it ever true
Change my heart O God
May I be like You

You are the Potter
I am the clay
Mold me and make me
This is what I pray

Change my heart O God
Make it ever true
Change my heart O God
May I be like You

We rejoice, for The Lord has blessed us and renewed us. In God’s time, by God’s grace in every breath, we, who were far off in darkness, are brought close to the Lord’s spirit and light.

People of Faith: Today, in the midst of many questions, without question, our delight and power are in the faithful mercy and grace of the One who restores us, brings us close, and changes our hearts!

Song of Grace Anew

Change My Heart, O God

Espinosa

Change my heart O God
Make it ever true
Change my heart O God
May I be like You

You are the Potter
I am the clay
Mold me and make me
This is what I pray

Change my heart O God
Make it ever true
Change my heart O God
May I be like You

Loving God, we give you thanks for the gift of faith, even in the midst of daily questions. Change our hearts, keep us still, calm our every fear, reassure us again and again, set us free from all that cripples us, and increase our faith to remember not just the Sabbath day, but every day, to keep you holy. As we take each new breath, we trust anew, you are the One True Answer at the center of all our questions. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Old Testament Lesson

Isaiah 58:9b-14

If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in. If you refrain from trampling the sabbath, from pursuing your own interests on my holy day; if you call the sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, serving your own interests, or pursuing your own affairs; then you shall take delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of your ancestor Jacob, the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

Song of Hope & Grace Anew

I Love To Tell The Story

Hankey & Fischer

vs. 1
I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above
Of Jesus and his glory
Of Jesus and his love
I love to tell the story
Because I know it’s true
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else would do

refrain:
I love to tell the story
I’ll sing this theme in glory
And tell the old old story
Of Jesus and his love

vs. 2
I love to tell the story
How pleasant to repeat
What seems each time I tell it
More wonderfully sweet
I love to tell the story
For some have never heard
The message of salvation
From God’s own holy Word

(refrain)

vs. 3
I love to tell the story
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest
And when in scenes of glory
I sing the new new song
I’ll sing the old old story
That I have loved so long

(refrain)

Gospel

Luke 13:10-17

Now Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And just then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and was quite unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your ailment.” When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God. But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had cured on the sabbath, kept saying to the crowd, “There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be cured, and not on the sabbath day.” But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to give it water? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the sabbath day?” When he said this, all his opponents were put to shame and the entire crowd was rejoicing at all the wonderful things that he was doing.

(New Revised Standard Version)

As we hear God’s Word, let us take a fresh breath, and boldly speak of all we believe, trusting God’s power and grace in Jesus Christ.

I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the sky can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, great and awesome above all that are around him? O Lord, God of hosts, who is as mighty as you? Blessed be the Lord forever. Amen and Amen.

Take a Breath…Ready For One Thing

ISAIAH 58:9B-14; HEBREWS 12:18-29; LUKE 13:10-17

Why do you do what you do?  Good question.  Why does God do what God does?  Better question!  Why do we question what God does?  Good question.  Why do we not let God be God?  Better question!  Today’s readings invite us to ask many questions.  Why do we do what we do on the Sabbath?  Why do we feel so guilty at times?  Why do we wait to bring before God what cripples our lives?  Why do we put our trust in the water and Word of Baptism?  Why does God work so hard?  Why is God so gracious?  Why do we not use the Sabbath and every day to remember Who is never resting when it comes to our salvation?  As we share the story today of Jesus healing on the Sabbath, let us take a deep breath in grace and not question our Savior, let us give thanks and trust on the Sabbath and every day, Jesus may not answer all of our questions as he showers us with grace upon grace!

1. Why do we, or don’t we, honor the Sabbath Day and keep it holy?
Isaiah 58:12-14; Hebrews 12:28; Luke 13:13-14

A. Why are you here this morning?

i. Is it to follow a rule?  Good question!
ii. Is it to worship?  Better question!

B. Why do you worship?

i Is it to be bound up?  Good question!

ii. Is it to be set free?  Better question!

2. Why do we feel so guilty at times?  Why do we at times hurt so deeply inside?
Luke 13:15

A. Why the first tablet?  Good question!  The first tablet is clear about our relationship with our God.  `Have no other gods before me,’ `Do not take the name of your Lord your God in vain,’ `Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy.’

B. Why The Christ?  Better question!  Luther said, `No one can keep even one commandment.’  If we could, we would have no need for The Christ.  We have The Savior, because we need The Savior!

3. Why do we wait to bring before the Lord our brokenness and all those things which cripple our lives and spirits?
Isaiah 58:12; Luke 13:11,16

A. Who here would like God to wait to heal you?  Good question!

B. Why do we wait so long?  Better question!

4. Why do we put our trust and hope in the water and Word of Baptism?
Isaiah 58:11; Hebrews 12:28; Luke 13:16

A. Why Baptism?  Good question!  Baptism is not a rule but a gift of faith, grace and life for the living.  There is nothing magical about Baptism.  Mysterious?  Yes!  Baptism is life giving to all who believe!

B. Why would we do anything but stay close and let our light shine?  Better question!

5. Why do we do what we do?  Good question.  Why does God work so hard to shower us with healing and hope, compassion and comfort?  Why does God bother with us?  These indeed are better questions!  Trust you need not know ‘why’ as you live and breathe in God’s saving, life giving, grace!
Isaiah 58:11; Hebrews 12:28; Luke 13:12

...as we pray to you, Jesus, ...

Amen.

Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.

In order to better serve you in this troubling times, the way we receive Communion has changed slightly. You will be offered a self-contained Communion serving. Each capsule has two layers. The first layer is a thin, clear, cellophane layer which reveals the host. Under the second layer you will find the alcohol free juice. Volunteers will be happy to take you waste after you receive Communion.

The Words of Institution

In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread and gave thanks; broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat, this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Song During Holy Communion

Revelation Song

Riddle

Worthy is the
Lamb who was slain
Holy holy is He
Sing a new song
To Him who sits on
Heaven’s mercy seat

(repeat)

refrain:
Holy holy holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Clothed in rainbows
Of living color
Flashes of lightning rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor
Strength and glory and power be
To You the only wise King

(refrain)

Filled with wonder
Awestruck wonder
At the mention of Your name
Jesus Your name is power
Breath and living water
Such a marv’lous mystery

(refrain)

The body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in his grace, this day, and on into life everlasting.
Amen.

Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, The Lord of life. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you take each breath, each deep fresh breath, in the living grace of Jesus Christ. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!
