Litany Filling Us with Grace to Live Here In The Risen Christ

based on Psalm 27

Today as we celebrate this special anniversary, we trust anew, Jesus is alive, we are filled anew to overflowing, right here; God’s grace is present, right here in The Risen Christ, so we worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is my stronghold; I am not afraid! All I ask is to live in the house of the Lord forever.

Friends of The Risen Savior: Jesus lives, he is gracious and merciful. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have failed to trust we are made new, filled with God’s living grace.

(silence for reflection)

Friends of The Risen Christ: When you call on The Lord, he hears you and answers you, filling you and raising you up to live right here in the grace of these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. Jesus is here; filling us to overflowing; come let us eat, the feast is spread!

Song of Trust & Gathering

Come, Let Us Eat

Kwillia & Miller

vs. 1
Come let us eat
For now the feast is spread
Come let us eat
For now the feast is spread
Our Lord’s body
Let us take together
Our Lord’s body
Let us take together

We love the Lord for saving us. We join together as God’s people; we are saved; we eat at his table; we celebrate; our souls are filled; we are alive and anew, right here, in this place!

Friends in faith: Thanks be to God, The Holy Spirit is here, to stir us up, to call us anew in mission to make God and neighbors first, to be one in The Risen Christ; so come, let us eat, let us drink, the wine is poured!

Song of Trust & Gathering

Come, Let Us Eat

Kwillia & Miller

vs. 2
Come let us drink
For now the wine is poured
Come let us drink
For now the wine is poured
Jesus’ blood poured
Let us drink together
Jesus’ blood poured
Let us drink together

Loving God, as the Easter celebration continues, forever raise up in each of us new life and salvation. As we celebrate the anniversary of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, we thank you for your faithfulness and your Spirit and grace through the years, as we long to make you and our neighbors first.  Risen Savior, as you walked with others on the road to Emmaus, walk with us each day, let our hearts burn anew for you; as you were made known in the breaking of bread, break into our presence, at our tables, at your table, and fill us to overflowing. In The Risen Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The First Lesson

Acts 2:14a, 36-42

But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified.” Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone who the Lord our God calls to him.” And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them saying, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

(New Revised Standard Version)

The Second Lesson

1 Peter 1:17-23

If you invoke as Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds, live in reverent fear during the time of your exile. You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver and gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake. Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are set on God. Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart. You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Gospel Acclamation

Blessed Assurance

Blessed assurance
Jesus is mine
Oh what a foretaste
Of glory divine
Heir of salvation
Purchase of God
Born of his Spirit
Washed in his blood

(refrain)

refrain:
This is my story
This is my song
Praising my Savior
All the day long
This is my story
This is my song
Praising my Savior
All the day long

Perfect submission
All is at rest
I in my Savior
Am happy and blest
Watching and waiting
Looking above
Filled with his goodness
Lost in his love

(refrain)

Gospel

Luke 24:13-23, 27-35

Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, “What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?” They stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?” He asked them, “What things?” They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some of the women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive.”

… Beginning with Moses and all the prophets, Jesus interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures. As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?” That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven and their companions gathered together. They were saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread.

(New Revised Standard Version)

based on Revelation 21:5-7

As we hear The Easter Gospel, and believe anew The Risen Christ is right here raising one and all to new life, let us today boldly state our faith, trusting our God’s faithfulness and living grace will never fail us.

God who sits upon the throne says, “Behold, I make all things new. Write these words for they are trustworthy and true. It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the fountain the water of life without payment. They who conquer shall have their heritage, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.” Amen.

Filled to Overflowing, Right Here!

ACTS 2:14A,36-42; 1 PETER 1:17-23; LUKE 24:13-35

Just about every day, we have a conversation with someone.  Just about every day, we go from place to place.  Just about every day, we have a piece a bread.  Just about every day, we sit at a table with someone.  These are common, every day occurrences.  God sent Jesus to walk and talk, to eat and sit, among the people.  In so doing, God revealed God’s self and God’s grace to the people.  Not even the disciples were always able to see they were filled to overflowing with grace to live, right here, in the uncommonness of the One who was rising among their common every day occurrences.  On the road to Emmaus, God is at it again.  As we celebrate our anniversary as a church, we give thanks, God is forever faithfully still at it, here, every day!  The Risen One is raising us up, here, in the common: the every day experiences, moments, meals, conversations, relationships, blessing us with all that is uncommon, filling us to overflowing with living grace; Jesus is here, for Christ is risen, Christ is risen indeed!  Alleluia!

1.      Be filled to overflowing, every day with grace, right here; live in the Uncommon Talk rising among your common conversations.
Acts 2:36; 1 Peter 1:18-19,23; Luke 24:15-27

A.      We all get pretty good at “small talk.”

B.      Have you ever longed for your “small talk” to go “big”?

C.      Be filled to overflowing with grace to trust Who is risen, Who is right here, Who is always speaking, Who is always listening!

2.      Be filled to overflowing, every day with grace, right here; live in the Uncommon Walk rising among your common journeys and paths.
Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 1:20; Luke 24:15-16, 28-29

A.      Do you see who comes along for the walk every day?

B.      What can keep you from - seeing him, hearing him, having your heart burn for him, asking him to stay?

C.      Be filled to overflowing as you live in the grace of the Risen One rising up among the common, raising up life among our lives, keeping us alive, right here!

3.      Be filled to overflowing, every day, with grace right here; live in the Uncommon Bread rising among your common meals.
Acts 2:42; 1 Peter 1:21; Luke 24:30

A.      Most people have their own style, especially at the table.

B.      Daily Bread, The Body Of Christ, The Bread of Life are so easy to see, rising among the common, filling us with grace, right here!

4.      Be filled to overflowing, every day, with grace right here; live in the Uncommon Guest rising among your common tables.
Acts 2:39; 1 Peter 1:22; Luke 24:31-32

A.      Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest; all your gifts to us be blessed!

B.      May our hearts burn with the Risen One who sits at our tables, right here!

5.      As we celebrate our anniversary, we trust anew, Uncommon Memories; God is forever faithfully still at it, alive, right here, filling us to overflowing, with mission, drive, relationships, as together we make God and neighbors first, blessed by The Spirit, we push, carry, support each other, with more uncommon grace to come!

6.      Be filled to overflowing, every day, with grace; live in the Uncommon Grace of The Risen One, alive, right here, in the common every day occurrences around you.  “Just about every day” is not good enough for grace.  Every new day, occurrences are given to rise above every common yesterday, to be filled with grace, right here, for Christ is risen; Christ is risen indeed!
Alleluia!  Acts 2:36; 1 Peter 1:20; Luke 24:22,31-35

Song of Hope & Life Anew

All Who Are Thirsty

Brown/Roberts

All who are thirsty
All who are weak
Come to the fountain
Dip your heart in the stream of life
Let the pain and the sorrow
Be wash’d away
In the waves of His mercy
As deep cries out to deep We sing

Come Lord Jesus come
Come Lord Jesus come
Come Lord Jesus come
Come Lord Jesus come

(repeat entire song)

...as we pray to you, Jesus,
Risen Savior, raise us to live anew, right here, in your living hope and grace.

All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord and Savior.
Amen.

The Words of Institution with “We Come to The Hungry Feast”

Makeever

We come to the hungry feast
Hungry for a word of peace
To hungry hearts unsatisfied
The love of God is not denied
We come we come
To the hungry feast

In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread and gave thanks; broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat, this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

We come to the hungry feast
Hungry for a word of peace
To hungry hearts unsatisfied
The love of God is not denied
We come we come
To the hungry feast

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

We come to the hungry feast
Hungry for a word of peace
To hungry hearts unsatisfied
The love of God is not denied
We come we come
To the hungry feast

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

And He so loved the world
He sent His Son to save us all
