Trusting God’s Grace & Light Transform, Change Everything

based on Psalm 50

Today we celebrate, our souls awake, we are transformed; The Bright New Light changes everything, so we worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. Our God speaks and summons us and all the earth, from the rising of the sun to its setting. The light of God shines on us to transform us in every way, so we may go forward in faith.

People of God: The heavens declare God’s righteousness. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins, and those times we have failed to trust The Spirit fills us and changes us with light and grace.

(silence for reflection)

Friends; trust the One who is judge over all is filled with truth and mercy. Today hear these words of grace that transform us and change everything: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. Trust this is only the beginning! The Spirit is here, flooding this place, and the atmosphere!

Holy Spirit
You are welcome here
Come flood this place
And fill the atmosphere
Your glory God
Is what our hearts long for
To be overcome
By Your presence Lord
Your presence Lord

The Lord has made us his faithful ones. We have heard his call to be gathered close to him. Though we are judged, we are set free. Through Jesus, we are God’s changed people. His Light and grace transform us, and He forever changes the world.

People of Faith: The Lord comes to us and does not stay silent. Listen to him! See how dazzling Jesus is! The Lord of life changes everything! Be renewed by Light and grace! Jesus has come! Be overcome by His presence! The Lord is your God, your salvation, all your hearts long for; Holy Spirit, you are so welcome here!

Almighty and loving God, on the mountain, in the transfiguration of your Son, you showed your glory. In our ever-changing world, give us the faith to see your light endures, shining bright and sure. Send us The Bright New Light, transform our life and spirit. As we trust anew each new morning is only the beginning to so much more, change our outlook, our spirit, our hearts, our purpose, our devotion, our worship, our ministry, your Church. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Old Testament Lesson

2 Kings 2:1–12

Now when the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. The company of prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take your master away from you?” And he said, “Yes, I know; keep silent.” Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here; for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. The company of prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take your master away from you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know; be silent.” Then Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on. Fifty men of the company of prophets also went, and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up, and struck the water; the water was parted to the one side and to the other, until the two of them crossed on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me what I may do for you, before I am taken from you.” Elisha said, “Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit.” He responded, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it will be granted for you; if not, it will not.” As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha kept watching and crying out, “Father, father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” But when he could no longer see him, he grasped his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.

New Testament Lesson

2 Corinthians 4:3–6

And the Apostle Paul wrote, If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Song Trusting Anew In Light & Grace

How Good, Lord, to Be Here

Robinson

vs. 1
How good Lord to be here
Your glory fills the night
Your face and garments like the sun
Shine with unborrowed light

vs. 2
How good Lord to be here
Your beauty to behold
Where Moses and Elijah stand
Your messengers of old

vs. 5
How good Lord to be here
Yet we may not remain
But since you bid us leave the mount
Come with us to the plain

Gospel

Mark 9:2–9

Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them, Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the beloved; listen to him!” Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Based on Revelation 21:5-7

God’s Son who was born in a manger, who went forward to make us all one through his death and resurrection, who changed sin into forgiveness, death into life, despair into hope, will one day come again, and transform humanity and the Kingdom in full glory. Trusting every sign of grace anew in The Bright New Light, who changes everything, we share our faith, for his light has come and the darkness will not overcome it.

God who sits upon the throne says, “Behold, I make all things new. Write these words for they are trustworthy and true. It is done! I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the fountain the water of life without payment. They who conquer shall have their heritage, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.” Amen.

The Bright New Change!

2 KINGS 2:1-12; 2 CORINTHIANS 4:3-6; MARK 9:2-9

We live in an age of makeovers.  To change how something looks is becoming easier.  We are told in many cases, `with a little help, anyone can do it.’  Changing what something is, not just how it looks, may not be so easy.  What drives us to make changes may result in having what we treasure change for us.  As we celebrate Transfiguration Sunday, we are invited to see as Jesus is transformed on the mountain, what we treasure is being changed.  Who we are is changed and madeover, what we treasure is changed, the Savior we worship is changed, the treasure God provides is changed.  As Epiphany comes to a close, as Lent begins, trust Christ, The Bright New Change, changed to change you; you have all the help you will ever need in The Bright New Light of God’s grace!

1. Jesus changes. In the Transfiguration of Our Lord, Jesus, The Bright New Change, becomes dazzling white; different!
Mark 9:2-3

A. Appearances are everything, or so we say. There is so much more!

B. Jesus is now seen differently.  Thanks be to God!

2. Jesus, The Bright New Change, changes us, what we treasure!
2 Kings 2:1-12

A. What do we treasure?  Trust Who changes what you treasure!

B. Do we treasure reason or faith; where we stand or being saved?

C. Elisha treasured the Lord’s blessing of Elijah in his life, and he was not disappointed as he kept his eyes on all he treasured.

D. Jesus keeps changing us to change what we treasure!

3. Jesus, keeps changing us.  Just when we think we have been changed, The Bright New Change will change us again!
2 Corinthians 4:3-6; Mark 9:4-6

A. Jesus will keep changing us to see the change is not about us.

B. Jesus keeps changing us.  Others will ask, Who has changed you, as they see us coming down the mountain.

4. Mark 9:7-9 - Trust The Bright New Light changes you, changes how God does things, changes salvation, in God’s never changing grace!

Song Anew In Spirit & Grace

Jesus, My Lord

Fischer

refrain:
Have you seen Jesus my Lord
He’s here in plain view
Take a look open your eyes
He’ll show it to you

vs. 1
Have you ever
Looked at a sunset
With the sky
All mellowin’ red
Seen the clouds
Suspended like feathers
Then I say
You’ve seen Jesus my Lord

(refrain)

vs. 4
Have you ever
Stood in a family
With the Lord
There in your midst
Seen the face
Of Christ on each other
Then I say
You’ve seen Jesus my Lord

(refrain)

... as we pray to you, Jesus,
Change us, transform us, by your bright new light and grace.

All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.

For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.

The Words of Institution

In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread and gave thanks; broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat, this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Songs During Holy Communion

Here I Am, Lord

Schutte

I the Lord of sea and sky
I have heard my people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin
My hand will save
I who made the stars of night
I will make their darkness bright
Who will bear my light to them
Whom shall I send

refrain:
Here I am Lord
Is it I Lord
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go Lord
If you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart

I the Lord of snow and rain
I have borne my people’s pain
I have wept for love of them
They turn away
I will break their hearts of stone
Give them hearts for love alone
I will speak my word to them
Whom shall I send

(refrain)

I the Lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame
I will set a feast for them
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide
‘Til their hearts be satisfied
I will give my life to them
Whom shall I send

(refrain twice)

The body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in his grace this day, and on into life everlasting.
Amen.

Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, the Lord of life. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you are transformed, in The Bright New Light of God’s saving grace in Jesus Christ! In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, living anew in the transforming hope and grace of The Bright New Light, and serving The Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!

Bless the Lord O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

Let me be singing
When the evening comes

And You’re slow to anger

When my strength is failing
The end draws near
