Litany Celebrating the Rush of the Wind in Power & Grace

BASED ON PSALM 30

Today we trust anew, God’s grace in the rush of The Wind, awakes our souls, and touches us first with power and hope, so we worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. I rejoice in you, Lord. You have drawn me up, that I might be complete and be made new again. I cried to you for help, and your power and grace have touched me first.

People of God: The Lord of life is the only One who can restore our very souls. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins, and those times we have failed to trust the Lord’s power, to call on his touch, to call on his name.

Friends in Christ: The Lord has spoken and made us complete. Feel the rush of The Wind as God touches us first in the grace of these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. Though his anger is for a moment, his favor and mercy are for a lifetime. Come anew, just as you are to the One who touches you first!

Almighty and loving God, your voice alone speaks to us with power, healing and hope. In the midst of all that is broken in our lives, all that is longing to be restored, we feel the rush of The Wind as you touch us first. By your Spirit, renew our hearts, give us grace and courage to believe all we need do is reach out, to feel how close you are, as you touch us first. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. Now as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in utmost eagerness, and in our love for you – so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking. I do not say this as a command, but I am testing the genuineness of your love against the earnestness of others. For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. And in this matter I am giving my advice: it is appropriate for you who began last year not only to do something but even to desire to do something – now finish doing it, so that your eagerness may be matched by completing it according to your means. For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has – not according to what one does not have. MARK 5:21–43

When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered around him; and he was by the sea. Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet and begged him repeatedly, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.” So Jesus went with him. And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years. She had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him and touched his cloak, for she said, “If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.” Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my clothes?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, ‘Who touched me?’” Jesus looked all around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader’s house to say, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” Jesus allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. When they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, he saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. When Jesus had entered, he said to them, “Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside, and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha cum,” which means, “Little girl, get up!” And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age). At this they were overcome with amazement. Jesus strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and he told them to give her something to eat.

As we feel the rush of The Wind, let us speak boldly of all we believe, trusting God’s power and grace in Jesus Christ.

I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the sky can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, great and awesome above all that are around him? O Lord, God of hosts, who is as mighty as you? With the Rush of the Wind … I Touch You First!

LAMENTATIONS 3:22-33; 2 CORINTHIANS 8:7-15; MARK 5:21-43

Most people these days are looking for a little more energy, a little more jump in their step, a little more power.  These days you can find `quick energy drinks' and `power bars' to give you a boost.  What gives you real energy, real power?  What restores your fire, energy, and spirit?  What restores your soul, your faith?  In today’s Gospel, a man looks for his daughter to be healed, and a woman looks for her body to be restored.  The man knew the power of Jesus' touch.  The woman knew the power in simply touching Jesus' garments.  Both people had been touched by the rush of The Wind in Jesus, - his message, ministry, presence, grace - they knew where to get more.  As our personal walks of discipleship and devotion go forward, let us go forward in the rush of The Wind, trusting all we long for is a touch away, trusting The One who touches us first!

1. Where do you get your power and energy?  Where do you get energy and power for your spirit, soul, and faith?  When you feel empty, feel the rush of The Wind, trusting who touches you first!

2. Let us forever call upon and reach out to the One who with the rush of The Wind reaches out to us first, touching us first!

A. God in Jesus touches us first with his power, as individuals and as disciples.
Lamentations 3:22-26; Mark 5:22, 27

i. If we cannot always feel the power of Jesus' touch, we can reach out to him, he is that close, that powerful.

ii. Like the leader of the synagogue, like the woman, we know where we can get more, who has all we need.

B. With the rush of The Wind, God in Jesus touches us first with his power to restore what God alone created, even though at times we are tired and empty and broken in our bodies, spirits, souls, and faith.

C. With the rush of The Wind, God in Jesus touches us first with his power as God’s people `to make God and neighbor first.'
2 Corinthians 8:7-12

i. God has touched us first, putting much in our care.

ii. God has touched us first, calling us to take next steps.

iii. God has touched us first, gracing us, keeping us faithful.

iv. The gift is acceptable according to what we have, not according to what we do not have.

3. With the rush of The Wind, God's power in Jesus, truly touches us more than we touch him.  Today and always, let us trust healing and hope and grace and reassurance, and all we long for, are only a touch away, faithfully given to us in the power and love of the One who touches us first!

Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.

For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.
