Litany Celebrating the Rush of the Wind in Power & Grace

BASED ON PSALM 45

Today we trust anew, in the rush of the Wind, in Jesus, Messiah, we are blessed to see more than at first, so we worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. My God and King, I will bless your name forever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised. Every generation shall come and worship, praising your mighty acts.

Friends, our God is majestic. His works are filled with wonder and splendor. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and the times we have failed to trust the overflowing grace and mercy of our God.

(silence for reflection)

Friends of Jesus: Today feel the rush of The Wind, call on our Savior’s righteousness once again. Jesus alone satisfies your hunger for reconciliation. Receive more grace than you first thought in these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. Be still; sing anew, believe anew, the Holy One is here!

Song Anew in Grace

Be Still

Evans

vs. 1
Be still for the presence of the Lord
The Holy One is here
Come bow before Him now
With reverence and fear
In Him no sin is found
We stand on holy ground
Be still for the presence of the Lord
The Holy One is here

The Lord upholds all who are falling. He raises up those who are bowed down. All eyes look to you, O Lord. In the rush of The Wind, we see you satisfying one and all who hunger.

People who hunger for the Lord: Let us feast on all The Lord provides; we are graced with so much more than we first thought. Be still, let our mouth praise the Lord and bless his name forever and ever; the power of the Lord, is moving in this, and every place!

Song Anew in Grace

Be Still

Evans

vs. 3
Be still for the power of the Lord
Is moving in this place
He comes to cleanse and heal
To minister His grace
No work too hard for Him
In faith receive from Him
Be still for the power of the Lord
Is moving in this place

Loving God, Jesus, Messiah, you provide us with every blessing, so we come, hungry to be still, to forever trust you more and more. When we crave living together in harmony, when we hunger for hope, when we yearn to rediscover our mission and purpose, when we starve to trust you and your grace; by your Spirit, rush in like The Wind, feed us, fill us, and satisfy us again with more than we first thought possible. Filled to overflowing, in Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The Old Testament

2 KINGS 4:42-44

A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing food from the first fruits to the man of God: twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. Elisha said, “Give it to the people and let them eat.” But his servant said, “How can I set this before a hundred people?” So he repeated, “Give it to the people and let them eat, for thus says The Lord, ‘They shall eat and have some left.’ ” He set it before them, they ate, and had some left, according to the word of The Lord.

(New Revised Standard Version)

The New Testament

EPHESIANS 3:14-21

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Song Anew In Life & Grace

He Knows My Name

Walker

vs. 1
I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in His hand

refrain:
He Knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

vs. 2
I have a Father
He calls me His own
He’ll never leave me
No matter where I go

(refrain twice)

And hears me when I call

Gospel

JOHN 6:1–21

After this Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, also called the Sea of Tiberias. A large crowd kept following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing for the sick. Jesus went up the mountain and sat down there with his disciples. Now the Passover, the festival of the Jews, was near. When he looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?” He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “Six months wages would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little.” One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But what are they among so many people?” Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was a great deal of grass in the place; so they sat down, about five thousand in all. Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated, so also the fish, as much as they wanted. When they were satisfied, he told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them up, and from the fragments of the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten, they filled twelve baskets. When the people saw the sign that he had done, they began to say, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world.” When Jesus realized that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain by himself. When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were terrified. But Jesus said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they wanted to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the land toward which they were going.

Stating Our Faith in God

BASED ON PSALM 89

As we feel the rush of The Wind, let us speak boldly of all we believe, trusting God’s power and grace in Jesus Christ.

I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the sky can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, great and awesome above all that are around him? O Lord, God of hosts, who is as mighty as you? Blessed be the Lord forever. Amen and Amen.

I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry

I was there to hear your borning cry
I’ll be there when you are old
I rejoiced the day you were baptized
To see your life unfold

The Sacrament Of Holy Baptism For Lainey Taylor Feldmann

Stating Our Faith In God    “The Apostles’ Creed”

Do you believe in God The Father?
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, The Son of God?
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God The Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

Welcoming The Newly Baptized

Through Holy Baptism, God has made Lainey Taylor a new sister member of the priesthood we all share in Christ Jesus, that we may proclaim the praise of God and bear his creative and redeeming word to all the world.

We welcome you into the Lord’s family. We receive you as a fellow member of the body of Christ, a child of the same heavenly Father, and a worker with us in the kingdom of God. Amen.

More Than At First … In The Rush Of The Wind!

2 KINGS 4:42-44; EPHESIANS 3:14-21; JOHN 6:1-21

What are you hungry for today?  If you could feast on anything, what would it be?  What if what you are craving is not available?  Would you be willing to try something else?  What if all that was available to snack on, to munch on, to nibble on, to take the edge off, to fill your plate with, was something that did not sound very enticing at first?  Would you wait, try to catch something later on your own, or would you welcome the hand reaching out to you?  What if as you try this simplest of gifts, it tasted better than you first thought it would?  Would you reach for some more?  What if it tasted so good, you began to worry if there would be enough to go around, enough for you?  In our reading from John today, Jesus is on the beach with 5000 people who are hungry; hungry for food, hungry for a prophet, hungry for a king, hungry for a provider of signs and miracles.  Are they hungry for more than they first thought; for a Savior?  In the rush of The Wind, God makes known to us in Jesus, the One who satisfies us again and again, with more than we first thought!

1. What are you hungry for?  Do you know what would satisfy you and your spiritual hunger?  What if in the rush of The Wind, all the simple gifts Jesus gave you as daily bread suddenly tasted better than you first thought, suddenly filled you up more than you first thought, suddenly were made real to you, more than you first thought?

A. When it comes to serving others, we are `blessed to be a blessing’ more than we first thought!
John 6:5

i. Do not be surprised to hear Jesus tell you to give the hungry people something to eat.

ii. Do not be surprised to discover this `this little light of mine,’ is brighter and more than you first thought!

B. When it comes to wondering if we have enough, we soon see every little morsel is more than we first thought!
John 6:8-9,12-13

i. When we put aside our first reaction of `what are they,’ every bite and gift will become more than we first thought.

ii. Do not let any of what God offers go to waste, for even the littlest left over has more value than we first thought.

C. When it comes to being the body of Christ, staying together near the Christ is more than we first thought!
John 6:2-3,10

i. How many people on the beach that day must have looked at the five loaves and two fish and left?

ii. How many who had every right to care for self, were fed by being together, sharing what was given to them?

D. When it comes to trusting Jesus, calm and hope are more than we first thought!
John 6:16-21

i. The disciples were on the water, terrified once again.  The disciples were hungry for calm, craving safety, and starving for peace.  Jesus took them to the other side.

ii. `Trust it is I;’ Jesus provides more than you first thought.

E. When it comes to being filled, we are blessed to be more satisfied than we first thought!
2 Kings 4:42-44; Ephesians 3:18-19; John 6:11

i. The people received as much as they wanted.

ii. Is this not more than we first thought: `to be filled with all the fullness of God’?

2. In the rush of The Wind, Jesus is more than we first thought!  Trust Jesus is still hungering to be more than we first thought!  May our hunger for Jesus be more than we first thought!  May we forever be filled and satisfied by God’s grace!
Ephesians 3:20-21; John 6:14-15

Song of Satisfying Grace

We Come to the Hungry Feast

Makeever

We come to the hungry feast
Hungry for a word of peace
To hungry hearts unsatisfied
The love of God is not denied
We come
We come
To the hungry feast

We come to the hungry feast
Hungry for a world released
From hungry folk of ev’ry kind
The poor in body poor in mind
We come
We come
To the hungry feast

We come to the hungry feast
Hungry that the hunger cease
And knowing though we eat our fill
The hunger will stay with us still
We come
We come
To the hungry feast

… as we pray to you, Jesus, ...
Let us feel the rush of your presence and your grace.

All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.

For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Song During Holy Communion

Breathe

Barnett & Moore

This is the air I breathe
This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence
Living in me
This is my daily bread
This is my daily bread
Your very Word
Spoken to me
And I
I’m desp’rate for You
And I
I’m lost without You

(repeat)

And I
I’m desp’rate for You
And I
I’m lost without You
This is the air I breathe
This is the air I breathe

The body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in his grace, this day, and on into life everlasting.
Amen.

Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, The Lord of life. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you feel the rush of The Wind in God’s saving grace. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!
