Gathering In Spirit & Grace

Come, Now is the Time to Worship

Doerksen

Come
Now is the time to worship
Come
Now is the time to give your heart
Come
Just as you are to worship
Come
Just as you are before your God
Come

One day ev’ry tongue
Will confess You are God
One day ev’ry knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure
Remains for those
Who gladly choose You now

Come
Now is the time to worship
Come
Now is the time to give your heart
Come
Just as you are to worship
Come
Just as you are before your God
Come

Litany Celebrating the Rush of the Wind in Power & Grace

BASED ON PSALM 49

Today our souls feel the rush of The Wind; we receive again and again The Bread of Life and God’s saving grace, so we come, for now is the time to worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart. To you alone I bow down, and I give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and faithfulness, keep coming to us, and endure forever.

People of God: Jesus, The Bread of Life, fills us and blesses us, again and again, with every day miracles. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have failed to go back to God, again and again, for all God’s goodness and grace.

(silence for reflection)

Friends in Christ, feel the rush of The Wind as God fills you with his grace in these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. The Lord’s name and word are lifted high and valued above all else. God alone feeds us and fills us, again and again, with every closer walk with thee!

Song Anew in Faith & Grace

Just a Closer Walk with Thee

Traditional Gospel

vs. 1
I am weak but thou art strong
Jesus keep me from all wrong
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk let me walk close to thee

refrain:
Just a closer walk with thee
Grant it Jesus is my plea
Daily walking close to thee
Let it be dear Lord let it be

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, The Lord preserves me and strengthens me. The Lord hears me and stretches out his hand to me. The Bread of Life, The Bread of Heaven, feeds me again and again.

People of Faith: As we join in prayer and worship, let us see The Bread of Life loves us, and fulfills his purpose in us. The steadfast love of the Lord satisfies us, God’s goodness endures forever, thanks to every closer walk with thee!

Song Anew in Faith & Grace

Just a Closer Walk with Thee

Traditional Gospel

vs. 2
Through this world of toil and snares
If I falter Lord who cares
Who with me my burden shares
None but thee dear Lord none but thee

refrain:
Just a closer walk with thee
Grant it Jesus is my plea
Daily walking close to thee
Let it be dear Lord let it be

Loving God, we trust you and your goodness are the source of every miracle, blessing us again and again every day. Today we come with hungry hearts; give us seconds, and even more; as you fill us once again with daily bread. In the rush of The Wind, by your Holy Spirit, may The Bread of Life, may The Bread of Heaven, feed us with even more of your truth, hope, faith and grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The Old Testament

1 KINGS 19:4–8

But Elijah himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a solitary broom tree. He asked that he might die: “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my ancestors.” Then he lay down under the broom tree and fell asleep. Suddenly an angel touched him and said to him, “Get up and eat.” He looked, and there at his head was a cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. He ate and drank, and lay down again. The angel of the Lord came a second time, touched him, and said, “Get up and eat, otherwise the journey will be too much for you.” He got up, and ate and drank; then he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God.

(New Revised Standard Version)

The New Testament

EPHESIANS 4:25–5:2

So then, putting away falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our neighbors, for we are members of one another. Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not make room for the devil. Thieves must give up stealing; rather let them labor and work honestly with their own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy. Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption. Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Song of Peace & Hope Anew

He is Exalted

Paris

He is exalted
The King is exalted on high
I will praise Him
He is exalted
Forever exalted
And I will praise His name
He is the Lord
Forever His truth shall reign
Heaven and earth
Rejoice in His holy name
He is exalted
The King is exalted on high

(repeat)

He is exalted
The King is exalted on high

Gospel

JOHN 6:35, 41–51

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”… Then the Jews began to complain about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They were saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, “I have come down from heaven’?” Jesus answered them, “Do not complain among yourselves. No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

(New Revised Standard Version)

Stating Our Faith in God

BASED ON PSALM 89

As we feel the rush of The Wind, let us speak boldly of all we believe, trusting God’s power and grace in Jesus Christ.

I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the sky can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, great and awesome above all that are around him? O Lord, God of hosts, who is as mighty as you? Blessed be the Lord forever. Amen and Amen.

Faith Quest Sunday School will resume on Sunday, September 8!

Everyone: Have Seconds, In the Rush of the Wind!

I KINGS 19:4-8; EPHESIANS 4:25-5:2; JOHN 6:35, 41-51

Do you enjoy going back for seconds?  Do you fill your plate once, and say that is enough?  When it comes to our spiritual walk, there is nothing wrong with going back, again and again, for a little more.  When we do not go back for seconds, we may feel only somewhat satisfied.  Today we are reminded to live anew in Jesus, The Bread of Life, come down from heaven to fill us.  If we do not go back, we may not get any of what we missed the first time.  As we make God and neighbor first, trust Jesus invites us to keep coming back to find something new.  When we do not go back for seconds, we lose the chance to enjoy our favorites.  Jesus fills us and feeds each of us in different ways.  The Bread of Life is here for you to count on, to feast on, and to enjoy.  In the rush of The Wind, come back to Jesus again and again.  Trust God sent Jesus, The Bread of Life, to come down from heaven that we might enjoy life, that we might not miss out on even one choice blessing, that we might be filled to overflowing!

1. In the rush of The Wind, when we go back for seconds, when we go back to Christ again and again, we can truly enjoy all our favorites in God’s grace!
1 Kings 19:5,7; Ephesians 4:29, 5:1-2; John 6:51

A. Having seconds allows you to go back again and again to what you like best.

B. Eating should be fun.  Jesus feeds us and nourishes our spirits to celebrate and to rejoice in what we need most.

C. However Christ meets you and feeds you best, trust it is ok to keep going back for a second helping.

i. Fill your plate again and again, and enjoy.

ii. Maybe your favorites include: worship, study, reflection, prayer time, people, fellowship, community, children, outdoors.

2. In the rush of The Wind, when we go back for seconds, when we go back to Christ again and again, we can get all of God’s grace, we might have missed out on the first time.
John 6:41-42

A. With our eyes so often drawn to the same thing - over and over – having seconds allows us to get what we might have passed by.

B. There is so much to feast on; no way it will all fit on our plate or in our life right away - we can always come back for more.

C.        It is never too late to go back to Christ and to try something new.

i. Ephesians 4:25 - Paul wrote the Ephesians, giving the people a second helping of living in communion with God.

ii. Ephesians 5:1-2 - We are imitators of God when we `live in love as Christ loved’ making sure everyone has enough Jesus.

3. In the rush of The Wind, when we go back for seconds, when we go back to Christ again and again, God invites us to get really filled up.

A. Having seconds allows us to fill up.  1 Kings 19:4-8 - Elijah was spiritually empty, defeating Baal's prophets and having the rain prayer answered. He needed to fill up and be strengthened.

B. Do not make the mistake of simply nibbling on Jesus.

C. John 6:35, 41, 48, 50-51 - When you fill up on The Bread of Life there is room for nothing else.  You have no room for those other tasty temptations.  How much more full can you get than `from heaven,' `forever,' `eternal,' `abundance'?

4. John 6:41,48,50-51 - In the rush of The Wind, all are invited to have seconds, to feast on The Bread of Life again and again.  Eat every day! There is enough; it is fresh each day.  Do not hesitate to come to fill up on him.  Eat, and then eat some more.  Try something new; enjoy your favorites. Let Jesus fill you even more in God’s grace!

Song of Satisfying Grace

Come to the Water

Stevens

refrain:
And Jesus said
Come to the water
Stand by my side
I know you are thirsty
You won’t be denied
I felt every teardrop
When in darkness you cried
And I long to remind you
That for those tears I died

vs. 1
You said you’d come and
Share all my sorrows
You said you’d be there
For all my tomorrows
I came so close to
Sending you away
But just like you promised
You came here to stay
I just had to pray

(refrain)

vs. 3
Jesus I give you
My heart and my soul
I know that without you
I’ll never be whole
Savior you opened
All the right doors
And I thank you and praise you
From earth’s humble shores
Take me I’m yours

(refrain)

… as we pray to you, Jesus, ...
Let us feel the rush of your presence and your grace.

All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.

For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Song During Holy Communion

Down to the River to Pray

Allan have & Krauss

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who should wear the starry crown
Good Lord show me the way
O sisters let’s go down
Let’s go down come on down
O sisters let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who should wear the robe & crown
Good Lord show me the way
O brothers let’s go down
Let’s go down come on down
O brothers let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who should wear the starry crown
Good Lord show me the way
O fathers let’s go down
Let’s go down come on down
O fathers let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who should wear the robe & crown
Good Lord show me the way
O mothers let’s go down
Let’s go down come on down
O mothers let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who should wear the starry crown
Good Lord show me the way
O sinners let’s go down
Let’s go down come on down
O sinners let’s go down
Down in the river to pray

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who should wear the robe & crown
Good Lord show me the way

The body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in his grace, this day, and on into life everlasting.
Amen.

Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, The Lord of life. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you feel the rush of The Wind in God’s saving grace. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!

Shout to the Lord

Zschech

My Jesus
My Savior
Lord there is none like You
All of my days
I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love
My Comfort
My Shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let ev’ry breath
All that I am
Never cease to worship You

Shout to the Lord
All the earth let us sing
Power and majesty
Praise to the King
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound
Of Your name
I sing for joy
At the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You
Forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares
To the promise I have
In You

Shout to the Lord
All the earth let us sing
Power and majesty
Praise to the King
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound
Of Your name
I sing for joy
At the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You
Forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares
To the promise I have in
Nothing compares
To the promise I have in
Nothing compares
To the promise I have
In You
