Treasuring a New Epiphany in God’s Light & Grace
BASED ON PSALM 139
Friends, today we celebrate we are changed and blessed by Jesus, Messiah, the One who treasures us first in every epiphany of light and grace, so we worship in the name of The Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen. O Lord, you have searched me out and you know me. When I sit down and when I rise up. You know my thoughts no matter how far I stray from you.
People of God: The Lord knows everything about us. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins and those times we have failed to trust every epiphany of change and life, in God’s light and grace.
(silence for reflection)
Friends, receive a new epiphany, God’s grace changes everything in these words; Jesus saves, Jesus forgives you all your sins. Be renewed by the One who treasures you first! Trust anew the One who forever changes your heart!
Song of Grace Anew
Change My Heart, O God
Espinosa
Change my heart O God
Make it ever true
Change my heart O God
May I be like You
You are the Potter
I am the clay
Mold me and make me
This is what I pray
Change my heart O God
Make it ever true
Change my heart O God
May I be like You
Lord, you know every word on my tongue, still you lay your hand on me. I know you will not let me flee from your presence. By your grace and light, change me, and forever treasure me!
Friends: The works of the Lord are incredible, filled with light and grace. God alone formed you, treasures you, graces you! His light forever guides you. Let us not be hesitant or silent. Sing anew of your salvation; thanks to the One who forever changes our hearts!

Change my heart O God
May I be like You
Almighty and loving God, you made known your grace and glory by leading many to faith through the power and presence of your Son. You alone know us: our every thought, word and deed, and still you are faithful. Give us a new epiphany today; by your light and grace and Spirit, change us once again; forever treasure us, to treasure you in new ways, as you bless us and call us to believe and to follow anew. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Faith Quest Sunday School meets today!
The Old Testament
ISAIAH 62:1–5
For Zion’s sake, I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord shall give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.
(New Revised Standard Version)
The New Testament
1 CORINTHIANS 12:1–11
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says, “Let Jesus be cursed!” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

Epiphany Carol
O’Brien
Ev’ry nation sees the glory
Of a star that pierced the night
As we tell the wondrous story
We are bathed in radiant light
Star sent forth from highest heaven
Dancing light of God’s design
Shine upon the gift that’s given
Word made flesh now born in time
Gospel
JOHN 2:1–11
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.” So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.” Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

Stating Our Faith in God
BASED ON HEBREWS 11-12:2
Long ago witnesses wrote words to proclaim Jesus as the Treasured Light fulfilling the coming of the promised Messiah, that his light and grace were sufficient to the Hebrew Christians considering returning to Judaism. Let us share our faith using these same words.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible. ...Without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. ...Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. Amen.
Treasured Change
ISAIAH 62:1-5; 1 CORINTHIANS 12:1-11; JOHN 2:1-11
Can you point to times of change in your life? Do you remember any of the specifics? Where you were? Who you were with? What change came out of it? Was it short lived, or life changing? Does it still impact you, your emotions, your life, your family or friends, your life style? Can you point to times of change in your spiritual life? In your walk of discipleship? What happened? Was it something you saw, experienced, felt? How exactly has it changed your faith? At the wedding in Cana, the hour of change has come for Jesus, for those around him, for those present who felt the Spirit, and for us and all who believe. We are invited to receive a new epiphany today: As water is changed into wine, disciples are changed into believers! As you share changes along life's path, as you experience hours of change in your faith, trust the One who treasures you first is in your midst. Do not let these changes, do not let Jesus, be short lived for you. Thanks be to God, the One who treasures you first, has come to change everything, to change one and all, for all eternity!
1. Can you point to times of change for you in your life? What about in your spiritual life? When and how did things, when and how did God, when and how did the One who treasures you, change you?
A. Jesus says, `his hour has not yet come.' The final hour for Jesus did not come at the wedding in Cana; and yet, the clock started in a new way to reveal God's goodness and light.
John 2:4
B. The One who treasures you first, chooses the hour for change; The Spirit makes change happen. Paul felt the Spirit like never before, his life changed, his life kept changing. Look for the Spirit to move you. Every day is a new epiphany to see and to believe our hour has come to be called by a new name.
Isaiah 62:2; 1 Corinthians 12:3
2. Once the Treasured One calls, the changes God brings, do not stop.
A. At the wedding in Cana, Mary's hour had come to change from simply mother to witness.
John 2:5
B. Mary says, "Do whatever he tells you." The Spirit moves us to do whatever Jesus tells us, to tell others to do whatever Jesus tells them, to trust Jesus.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11, John 2:7-9
3. In the Treasured One, the hour has come to change up everything, not just a little, but a lot.
A. In Jesus, God no longer does things the way he used to.
B. It was tradition to serve the best wine first.
John 2:10
i. God serves the Jews, the world, well through his Word; through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob; through David, Solomon; through prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah and all the others.
ii. In this hour of change - in a baby in manger, at a wedding in Cana - God is revealing the Treasured One is the very finest! We who know God in Christ, know how good God is, we know God’s grace, we know the best!
4. At Cana, the hour comes for God to make known God’s grace in the One who treasures us changes everything, for God to make known his glory, and for disciples to believe!
John 2:11
A. The hour has come for his disciples to be changed from those intrigued, from those who will study, from those who are interested, from those who will follow, to those who believe.
B. In our hours of change, from apathy to commitment, from simply following to making God and neighbor first, from searching to faith - we can trust this is when `God rejoices over us.'
Isaiah 62:5
C. The changes we share in the Treasured One are not short lived; these are changes that last forever!
D. The hour has come, the hour will come again, in every epiphany, for all eternity, for us, for one and all, to see God’s grace made known in the One who treasures us first, changes everything!

Song Anew in Light & Grace
There is None Like You
LeBlanc
refrain:
There is none like You
No one else
Can touch my heart like You do
I could search for all eternity long
And find
There is none like You
(repeat)
vs. 1
Your mercy flows like a river wide
And healing comes from Your hands
Suffering children are safe in Your arms
There is none like You
(refrain)
... as we pray to you, Jesus,
Bless us with a new epiphany, in your treasured light and grace.
All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.
For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.
We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.
