Light one candle
To watch for Messiah:
Let the light banish darkness.
He shall bring
Salvation to Israel,
God fulfills the promise.

O that you would tear open the heavens and come down ... From ages past no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any good besides you, who works for those who wait for him.
— Isaiah 64:1, 4

This time of year is increasingly busy for our postal workers. Even in the age of messaging people electronically, Christmas cards, Christmas letters and Christmas packages are being sent on their way. 'Tis the season to send and to receive messages.

Long ago God chose the prophets to be the messengers of God. Prophets were not asked to predict the future, only to tell the truth about God's faithfulness. God is still choosing prophets. God is, in fact, still asking us and preparing us to tell from ages past what we have heard, what our ears have perceived, what our eyes have seen; to announce and to prophesy the truth about God's signs of grace banishing the darkness, as God fulfills every promise!

As we began our Advent journey we were reminded of Jesus' words to "stay awake." As we light one candle, as we stay awake and alert this Advent and Christmas season, as we trust the light will banish the darkness, as we share the message God fulfills the promise, as we announce God has torn open the heavens and come down, as we invite others to trust the One who works for us while we wait; we will see God using us as prophets, as blessed signs of God's grace. Let us be the busiest messengers of the season!

Let us pray: Ever faithful and ever truthful God, I receive in new ways, you, and every sign of your promised grace, for even in the midst of my own busy day, you light my way, you banish my darkness. May I forever see and hear you working for me while I wait, and then by your Holy Spirit make me the busiest messenger of all. Send me out to send and to forward the greatest message anyone has ever received: The promise is fulfilled; God's grace is here in Jesus Christ. In your name, I prophesy and I pray. Amen.
