Shepherds why this jubilee
Why your joyous strains prolong
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song
Gloria
In excelsis Deo
Glo-ria
In excelsis Deo

Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth. Shout aloud and sing for the joy, O royal Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.
— Isaiah 12:5-6

`Tis the season for singing; for putting emotion to melody and harmony; for letting instruments and voices ring out!

Have you ever wished you could play an instrument or sing just a little better?

Have you ever thought you were not good enough to join the group?

This is the season, Christ is the reason, we all have a song in our heart!

There is a Christmas carol my grandmother sang to me each year; "The Friendly Beasts." The carol proclaims the voice and calling of each beast present in the stable away in a manger.

This is the season, Christ is the reason, we all have a song in our heart!

If there was ever a time of year when there was more familiar music across the airwaves, I do not know of one. It is by far the easiest time of the year to play, "Name That Tune," as you listen to the radio or the music in the mall.

This is the season, Christ is the reason, we all have a song in our heart!

Whatever your musical ability, the prophet announces this is the season and Christ is the reason, you are to go and tell, to sing and to play that song in your heart! Others may look strangely at us, as we struggle to play or find the right key; for they will be searching for the song in their heart.

Oh, how the shepherds must have been looked upon as they entered Bethlehem. "Shepherds, why this jubilee, Why your joyous strains prolong? What the gladsome tidings be, Which inspire your heavenly song?" Yet they came, they had heard first hand heaven and nature sing, and they could do no other than "repeat the sounding joy!"

May others look at you this season, and know clearly Christ is the reason you have a song in your heart as you sing and play your part of the heavenly song and let the joyous strains prolong; as you answer Isaiah and sing loud praises, repeating the sounding joy!

Gloria in excelsis Deo! Glory to God in the highest!

Let us pray: God of the song in my heart, today I thank you that each of us are blessed to share your gift of music. I thank you for the sounds of the season that can take me from one emotion to another in a single note, because of your Word and grace. In The Christ, let heaven and nature forever sing, and let there forever be a song in my heart, and may you forever be the reason. May my 'joy to the world' be forever in thanks to that 'silent night,' and may the joyous strains truly prolong, for you are The One great in my midst. In Jesus name, I sing and I pray. Amen.
