“See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight - indeed, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.”
'Tis the season to receive many, many messages from many, many messengers.
Commercials and ads, cards and letters, packages and special deliveries, they are coming from every direction.
Which ones catch your attention? Which ones do you hear? Which ones do you pass along?
When children call out to us, "Hark," they catch our attention, and they want us to listen.
Children send some of the best messages of all. Their messages are short in length and to the point. "Mom, someone called." "Dad, I need to go, now." "Mom and Dad, I did something bad." "Mom and Dad, I need you." "Mom and Dad, I love you."
Their messages at first may not be complete. We may need to talk with them more to understand more.
This coming Sunday, the children of Lord of Life will once again be God's messengers. They will tell again through their Christmas program the best news of all, about the best Messenger of all. They have been practicing to best share the message!
"Hark," let us listen to the children, and let us listen to all of God's children.
As the angels sing glory to the newborn King, may we each also go out far as the curse is found, singing with heaven and nature as God's children, as God's messengers to prepare the way of the Lord for so many indeed seek him.
If we need to practice what we will say, then let us practice. Our message need not be long, for God will help us catch the attention of others: Hark! Jesus loves you!
Let us pray: Loving God, send your message and your messengers to each of us as we journey through Advent toward Christmas this year. As your children every age, make us like angels as you open our spirits and voices to sing, "God and sinners reconciled;" to announce the Good News of the Great Messenger. Catch our attention, for we long to hear heaven and nature sing, and to proclaim: "Glory to the new born King!" Amen.
