My faith looks up to thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,

Oh, let me from this day,
Be wholly thine!

Jesus said, “And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.”
— John 3:14-15

What do you hold onto? God's people had been led out of slavery, and they were holding onto the day-to-day worries. God sent the poisonous snakes. If they were bitten by a snake, all they had to do was look at the bronze snake on a stick Moses was instructed to make and lift up. God's people had to let go, and look to God alone.

We hold onto day-to-day worries, too. We are blessed with a very rich and deep faith, and yet, we hold onto other things. Why do we do that? Is not the Lamb of Calvary, our Savior divine, enough for us? All we have to do is sing and let our faith look up to thee, to the cross, to the heavens, to God's grace alone!

Let us pray: Jesus, today I confess at times it is easier to hold on, to look down, and not to look up. By your Holy Spirit, renew my faith in thee, every day. By your grace, help me raise my head, and I will see the Son of Man lifted up before me, for me, and I will let go of all the rest. In faith I look up to thee, to you and your grace alone, as I pray. Amen.
