Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus

Wesley & Witt

Come thou long-expected Jesus
Born to set thy people free
From our fears and sins release us
Let us find our rest in thee
Israel's strength and consolation
Hope of all the earth thou art
Dear desire of every nation
Joy of every longing heart

The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
— Isaiah 11:2

It does not seem possible does it - the days keep moving along at such a clip. When and how will we each get it all done? The idea of a personal planner and personal shopper sounds pretty good. You know, someone to do all the planning, to take care of all the details; someone to think of everything.

Thanks be to God, that is what we have in our God, who sends us a Messiah, who sends us The Christ, who sends The Spirit of The Lord to rest on us thanks to Christ, The One who provides the spirit of wisdom and understanding, counsel and might, knowledge and the fear of The Lord, The One who is long expected, The One who frees us, The One who releases us, The One who is our strength and consolation and hope, The One who is our comfort and joy. Did I miss anything? Whatever I mentioned, whatever I missed, God has it all covered!

Let us pray: Long-expected Jesus, I have a hard time thinking of everything to get ready for a Christmas celebration focused on you, and an even more difficult time getting ready for your promised return. I praise you and thank you for doing all the planning for me, for thinking of everything on my behalf through your grace and faithfulness. Increase my faith between now and Christmas, all the days of my life, to expect you to provide one and all with comfort and joy. Amen.
