Amazing Grace
Newton
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost
But now am found
Was blind but now I see
Do you keep a little treasure chest? You know, a little box, a few things in a drawer, a secret place for those things that are extra special to you? Do others know what you treasure most? Maybe it is no secret at all? Maybe what you treasure is out in the open for everyone to see?
Jesus' words from Matthew noted here, are at the center of Ash Wednesday. Lent invites us to re-examine what we treasure, what our heart is centered on. Our Savior in amazing grace opens our heart to treasure anew The Christ. Our Savior in amazing grace, finds us, opens our eyes. Our Savior in amazing grace, treasures us; you are where God's heart is! God blesses you, names you, claims you, in God's amazing grace alone!
Amazing grace is for us to treasure! Amazing grace is no secret! May others see what is now out in the open: We treasure most The One who treasures us; in grace alone!
Let us pray: God of amazing grace, today I thank you for saving a wretch like me. I treasure and I center my heart on things I think matter most. I confess, I have tempting treasures, and self-serving treasures, I hold onto, allow to remain, and I keep them secret, or at least I think I do. Save me, renew my heart again today through your amazing grace. In grace alone, I will share how sweet the sound, so others know what is no secret: I treasure the One who first treasures me! In amazing grace, I pray. Amen.
