Be Not Afraid
Dufford
You shall cross the barren desert
But you shall not die or thirst
You shall wander far in safety
Though you do not know the way
You shall speak your words in foreign lands
And all will understand
You shall see the face of God
And live
Be not afraid
I go before you always
Come follow me
And I will give you rest
Gravity. The earth is round. 2 + 2 = 4. Some things are certain. A given. An absolute. No question.
Today's devotion is simple power, certain power, given power, absolute power, power without question, in God's grace alone. In grace alone, God makes power certain. "The time IS fulfilled." "The kingdom of God HAS come near." Sing our song for today, this way: You SHALL cross, You SHALL wander, You SHALL speak, You SHALL see, Be NOT afraid, I GO, I WILL GIVE you rest. "BELIEVE the good news" my friends, for in God's grace alone, Jesus has made God's power and grace CERTAIN!
Let us pray: Jesus, today I search for certainty and absolutes and givens. I do not always know what to believe, and when I am unsure, I feel powerless. In your grace alone, I will be reassured, the time is fulfilled, your kingdom has come near, you will take away my fear, and you will give me rest. By your certain and absolute Holy Spirit, give me what is a given, the power to repent and to believe the good news. In Jesus' certain name, I am alive and anew, and I pray. Amen.
