Lent Day 16 – Lenten Devotion – Saturday, March 2, 2024
God, Whose Almighty Word
Marriott, de Giardini
God whose almighty word
Chaos and darkness heard
And took their flight
Hear us we humbly pray
And where the Gospel day
Sheds not its glorious ray
Let there be light
Have you ever been in a situation where you were 'waiting to get word'? Maybe you were waiting to get word about a new baby's birth, or to get word from a doctor's report, or to get word from the bank, or to get word from a friend regarding the timing of a get-together, or to get word on a promotion.
Waiting to get word, can leave us anxious, uneasy. When the word finally comes, if it is not the word expected, we may question its truth.
People had been waiting for the Word, for The Savior, for the living Christ, for Truth, for a long time. When the Word finally arrived, some people questioned its truth. When Jesus predicts the destruction and resurrection of his body by referring to the temple, people question truth once again.
As we continue our Lenten journey, we see this week in God's grace alone, the truth Who is Truth, the Truth Who unexpectedly breaks into our lives, the Truth Who will not crumble, Who cannot be destroyed. When you are anxious, uneasy, waiting, when you least expect a word of hope or power, trust God's almighty Word will be spoken in your midst. He will not crumble! He will not be destroyed! Truth can be trusted, in God's grace alone: Let there be light!
Let us pray: Jesus, today I confess, I can be anxious. I can even question your Word when it is not what I expect. By your grace, I trust you and your Word have broken in. You are Truth and You will never crumble. You will never be destroyed. In your grace alone, in Your Almighty Word and Light, I pray. Amen.
