My Hope is Built on Nothing Less

Mote

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
No merit of my own I claim
But wholly lean on Jesus' name
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

For Jews demand signs, and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.
— 1 Corinthians 1:22-23

Here is a quick little test. Read through these slogans. I trust you know the product or service or group advertised this way. "I'm lovin' it!" "Expect more. Pay less." "More saving. More doing." "Eat fresh." "The land of 10,000 lakes." "Making God and our neighbors first!"

The purpose of such slogans is to have a clear message that becomes associated with a product, to make the service or group or product attractive and memorable and desirable. Some of the best advertising and marketing campaigns make clear in a few words not only the value of a product, but also the over-riding truth and mission of the company or organization.

"We proclaim Christ crucified." "On Christ the solid rock I stand." Pretty simple words. A pretty clear message. Clearly truth! Words that have withstood the test of time. Words which make clear who Christ is, who we are as followers, and what truth is at our core. What could be more attractive, memorable or desirable! Words like these express quite clearly the value of all that is provided, the gift given, the truth that gives grace alone in Jesus Christ!

Let us pray: Jesus, today I trust anew the truth you provide and make available. Your message and truth are so clear. The cost of this product, this gift, this service has indeed already been paid. Thank you for making this truth so clear for me: You and your grace alone are so memorable, desirable, attractive, faithful! All you offer is priceless! I stand on no other! I proclaim only this: Christ crucified! In God's grace alone, on this solid rock, I stand and I pray. Amen.
