God Is So Good

Makai

God is so good
God is so good
God is so good
He's so good to me

I will keep watch
I will keep watch
I will keep watch
He's so good to me

Jesus spoke to his followers, saying, “Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
— Luke 21:34-36

As believers, we know Jesus will come again one day, but are any of us really keeping watch for it? Are we on guard? Would we truly be filled with wonder to see people faint as the powers of the heavens are shaken?

We watch for other things, do we not? A baby's first step. A friend or loved one to return from serving in the armed forces. For a new job or personal finances to take a positive turn. For someone we love to have their health and hope restored. We want to see these things. We watch for them.

To watch for The Messiah, wherever we go, in whatever we do, to watch for the heavens to shake with power, to look for God's goodness while we wait for Christ's return - this we want to see, this we will see! Trust every heart is being prepared to make Him room, to be on guard and alert at all times, for joy to the world to break forth, for heaven and nature to sing!

Let us pray: God of truest power, open our eyes and let our hearts prepare you room this Advent to keep alert and to watch for your goodness. Be with those who are keeping watch for loved ones in the midst of uncertain times and circumstances, and keep watch over them, that we and all people might hear heaven and nature sing in your goodness and faithfulness. Amen.
