Litany Trusting God’s Faithfulness In Each Breath
based on Psalm 66
Friends, today we celebrate and we take a deep breath and trust anew, The One who never passes us by, in grace breathes on us, so we worship in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen. Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing glory to his name! God, how awesome are your deeds! By your Spirit, we will not just pass by your grace; we will worship you, and sing praises to your name.
People of God: Come, see, what God has done. God is awesome, and never passes us by, turning death into life. Let us take a moment of silence to confess those times we have passed by all we have been invited to trust and asked to do.
(silence for reflection)
Friends in Christ: live today taking a breath in the grace of these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. ‘Be renewed, be alive, be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here!’
Song of Assuring Presence
Be Still
Evans
vs. 1
Be still for the presence of the Lord
The Holy One is here
Come bow before Him now
With reverence and fear
In Him no sin is found
We stand on holy ground
Be still for the presence of the Lord
The Holy One is here
Bless God, all people, everywhere. Let the sound of his praise be heard. We will not pass by God’s grace, for God has kept us among the living, not letting our feet slip, that we might fall.
Friends in faith: Take a breath in God’s grace. When we are broken, Jesus never passes us by; he breaks into our lives to work miracles, restoring us. Be still, see the glory of the Lord, shining all around!
Song of Assuring Presence
Be Still
Evans
vs. 2
Be still for the glory of the Lord
Is shining all around
He burns with holy fire
With splendor He is crowned
How awesome is the sight
Our radiant King of light
Be still for the glory of the Lord
Is shining all around
We come again to be filled with God’s grace. We cried to The Lord; he listened to us. Let us love our neighbor as ourselves, as we go in grace, telling others Jesus never passes us by.
Friends of Jesus: Listen to God’s Word and follow him always. Let us never pass by all God’s grace asks and offers. As we trust God’s steadfast love, let us sing praises to Jesus, and let us be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place!
Song of Assuring Presence
Be Still
Evans
vs. 3
Be still for the power of the Lord
Is moving in this place
He comes to cleanse and heal
To minister His grace
No work too hard for Him
In faith receive from Him
Be still for the power of the Lord
Is moving in this place
Almighty and loving God, you restore us, and you beckon us to respond. Breathe on us in grace, giving us faith to be still, to feel your power moving in this place, in our very lives, to trust you love us to love our neighbor as ourselves. By your Spirit, may we see and believe you never pass us by; you save us, that we might go and do likewise, as we reach out to those around us in compassion, making God and our neighbors first in new ways. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Old Testament Lesson
Deuteronomy 30:9-14
Moses continued to proclaim, And the Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all your undertakings, in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your soil. For the Lord will again take delight in prospering you, just as he delighted in prospering your ancestors, when you obey the Lord your God by observing his commandments and decrees that are written in this book of the law, because you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Surely, this commandment that I am commanding you today is not too hard for you, nor is it too far away. It is not in heaven, that you should say, “Who will go up to heaven for us, and get it for us so that we may hear it and observe it?” Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, “Who will cross to the other side of the sea for us, and get it for us so that we may hear it and observe it?” No, the word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart for you to observe.
(New Revised Standard Version)
Song of Grace & Trust Anew
You Are Holy
Harling
Sing a, then b, in unison the first time, then as canon – choose part a or b
a:
You are holy you are whole
You are always ever more
Than we ever understand
You are always at hand
Blessed are you coming near
Blessed are you coming here
To your church in wine and bread
Raised from soil raised from dead

You are Holy
You are wholeness
You are present
Let the cosmos praise you Lord
Sing hosanna
In the highest
Sing hosanna
Sing hosanna to our God
Gospel
Luke 10:25-37
Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?” The lawyer answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” And Jesus said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this and you will live.” But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied, “A man was going from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.’ Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
(New Revised Standard Version)
As we hear God’s Word, let us take a fresh breath, and boldly speak of all we believe, trusting God’s power and grace in Jesus Christ.
I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the sky can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, great and awesome above all that are around him? O Lord, God of hosts, who is as mighty as you? Blessed be the Lord forever. Amen and Amen.
Take a Breath…Grace Never Just Passes By!
DEUTERONOMY 30:9-14; COLOSSIANS 1:1-14; LUKE 10:25-37
Some times we do things to justify ourselves. Some times we do what will make us look good. Some times we do what we think is expected. Some times we do only what we have to do. Some times we do things to do the right thing. Do you ever wonder what is required of you? What you should do? In our Gospel from Luke today, a lawyer stands up to “test” Jesus. The lawyer is not seeking the truth. The lawyer, moments later, tries to justify himself. Will Jesus pass the test? How? Today, let us take a new breath in grace. Parables like The Good Samaritan offer us important lessons, we are not to pass by others, “Go and do likewise!” Parables reveal far more about The Kingdom and God’s grace: Jesus is The One who passes every test, Jesus is The One who never passes us by!
1. Long ago God could have passed by his people in bondage in Egypt. God did not pass them by. God has not passed us by. The Kingdom of God is clear: God never will pass us by!
Deuteronomy 30:9-14
A. God gave his people a fresh, deep breath in grace leading them out of bondage into the promised land.
B. God gave his people, God gave us, not simply a list of rules to break, but a new tradition to keep in grace when we were blessed with the commandments and direction from above.
C. The Kingdom of God continues to give us what is so near - hope, strength, faith, Spirit to not pass by the blessed tradition and commandment to make God and our neighbors first, to love God with all our heart and soul, and to love one another!
2. God in Christ asks us to love our neighbor as ourselves, to never pass by his invitation and calling and command to bear fruit.
Colossians 1:1-14
A. Long ago God in Christ would not pass by Paul. How Paul was loving God with all his heart and soul was not bearing fruit. Paul had been breaking rules and not keeping new traditions, now The Kingdom of God would ask him to bear new fruit.
B. How is God asking us as disciples, as `good Samaritans,’ as a church, to bear fruit, to not pass by the people, the mission, the ministry, The Kingdom of God being placed in our path?
C. We cannot justify ourselves or pass the test of salvation on our own! By God’s grace, strength, faithful Spirit, let us never pass by the random acts of kindness we will pay forward to change the world, to make known: The Kingdom of God is near!
3. Parables like The Good Samaritan offer us important lessons how to “go and do likewise.” Parables invite us to take a deep breath in grace as God uses parables for much more; to reveal a truth about God, and God’s Kingdom, and God’s power and grace. Luke 10:25-37
A. Many things in life will test us. On our own, we will not pass.
B. Many things in life will break us and rob us. On our own, we will not get up, we will not be healed or restored.
C. Many who would like to help, will not, by choice, due to convenience, comfort, priority, time, security, etc.
D. Jesus is The One who passes every test! Jesus is The One who strengthens us through our times of testing! Jesus is The One who graces us to get up, to be healed, to be restored! Jesus is The One who by choice, in grace, never passes us by, never!

Song of Faith & Hope Anew
I Love To Tell the Story
Hankey & Fischer
vs. 1
I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above
Of Jesus and his glory
Of Jesus and his love
I love to tell the story
Because I know it’s true
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else would do
refrain:
I love to tell the story
I’ll sing this theme in glory
And tell the old old story
Of Jesus and his love
vs. 2
I love to tell the story
How pleasant to repeat
What seems each time I tell it
More wonderfully sweet
I love to tell the story
For some have never heard
The message of salvation
From God’s own holy Word
(refrain)
vs. 3
I love to tell the story
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest
And when in scenes of glory
I sing the new new song
I’ll sing the old old story
That I have loved so long
(refrain)
...as we pray to you, Jesus, ...
Breathe on us anew your saving grace.
All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.
In order to better serve you in this troubling times, the way we receive Communion has changed slightly. You will be offered a self-contained Communion serving. Each capsule has two layers. The first layer is a thin, clear, cellophane layer which reveals the host. Under the second layer you will find the alcohol free juice. Volunteers will be happy to take you waste after you receive Communion.
The Words of Institution
In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread and gave thanks; broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat, this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.
Song During Holy Communion
Reckless Love
C. Asbury
vs. 1
Before I spoke a word
You were singing over me
You have been so so good to me
Before I took a breath
You breathed Your life in me
You have been so so kind to me
refrain:
Oh the overwhelming
Never-ending
Reckless love of God
Oh it chases me down
Fights ‘til I'm found
Leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn’t earn it
And I don’t deserve it
Still You give Yourself away
Oh the overwhelming
Never-ending
Reckless love of God
Yeah
vs. 2
When I was Your foe
Still Your love fought for me
You have been so so good to me
When I felt no worth
You paid it all for me
You have been so so kind to me
(refrain)
bridge:
There’s no shadow
You won’t light up
Mountain You won’t climb up
Coming after me
There’s no wall You won’t kick down
Lie You won’t tear down
Coming after me
(repeat then refrain)
The body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in his grace, this day, and on into life everlasting.
Amen.
Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, The Lord of life. Amen.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you take each breath, each deep fresh breath, in the living grace of Jesus Christ. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!
