Gathering In Spirit & Grace

Come, Now is the Time to Worship

Doerksen

Come
Now is the time to worship
Come
Now is the time to give your heart
Come
Just as you are to worship
Come
Just as you are before your God
Come

One day ev’ry tongue
Will confess You are God
One day ev’ry knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure
Remains for those
Who gladly choose You now

Come
Now is the time to worship
Come
Now is the time to give your heart
Come
Just as you are to worship
Come
Just as you are before your God
Come

Litany Seeing & Believing God’s Glory & Grace

BASED ON PSALM 66

Today, we celebrate anew and believe and see God’s glory and grace are more than we ever thought possible, so, we come, for now is the time to worship, in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.

Amen. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; sing glory to his name; give him glory and praise. God, how awesome are your deeds! We sing praises to your name!

People of God: Come, see, what God has done. Come, hear what God is sending us out to do. God is awesome, and has turned death into life. Let us take a moment of silence to confess our sins, and those times we have failed to trust all we believe and see.

(silence for reflection)

Friends in Christ: Live today in God’s glory and grace in these words: Jesus saves; Jesus forgives you all your sins. May we trust and rejoice for the Lord never looks away from us. Believe and see anew; rejoice and sing, for indeed, this is our Father’s world!

Song of Grace Anew

This Is My Father’s World

Babcock & Sheppard

vs. 1
This is my Father’s world
And to my list’ning ears
All nature sings
And round me rings
The music of the spheres
This is my Father’s world
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees
Of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought

Bless our God, all people, everywhere. Let the sound of his praise be heard. God has kept us among the living. He has not let our feet slip, that we might fall. We live in glory and grace!

Friends in faith: God’s goodness has worked miracles and God has brought us back to himself. Let us rejoice and sing: God’s goodness and glory and grace shine! Sing praises! Live anew, for this is truly forever, our Father’s world!

Song of Grace Anew

This Is My Father’s World

Babcock & Sheppard

vs. 2
This is my Father’s world
The birds their carols raise
The morning light
The lily white
Declare their maker’s praise
This is my Father’s world
He shines in all that’s fair
In the rustling grass
I hear him pass
He speaks to me ev’rywhere

Loving God, you faithfully provide us with more than we thought possible. Make yourself known to us even more clearly, through your gifts of glory and grace. By your Holy Spirit again today, reveal to us what truly matters most, renew our faith,  to believe and see anew, this is our Father’s world, and all good gifts are sent from heaven above, placed into our care. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Faith Quest Sunday School does not meet today.

The Old Testament

ISAIAH 53:4–12

Seek the Lord and live, or he will break out against the house of Joseph like fire, and it will devour Bethel, with no one to quench it. Ah, you that turn justice to wormwood, and bring righteousness to the ground! ... They hate the one who reproves in the gate, and they abhor the one who speaks the truth. Therefore, because you trample on the poor and take from them levies of grain, you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not live in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine. For I know how many are your transgressions, and how great are your sins – you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe, and push aside the needy in the gate. Therefore the prudent will keep silent in such a time; for it is an evil time. Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, just as you have said. Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Song Anew in Glory & Grace

Calling for you and for me
See on the portals

Though we have sinned
He has mercy and pardon
Pardon for you and for me

Gospel

MARK 10:35–45

James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” And Jesus said to them, “What is it you want me to do for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They replied, “We are able.” Then Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink, you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” When the ten heard this, they began to be angry with James and John. So Jesus called them and said to them, “You know that among the Gentiles those whom they recognize as their rulers lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be servant of all. For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

(New Revised Standard Version)

Stating Our Faith in God

BASED ON REVELATION 21:5–7

As God’s children, we trust God the good steward and God’s grace first love us and then fill us with countless blessings. In thanks to God’s faithfulness, we believe and we see anew God’s glory and grace, and so, we, now boldly proclaim our faith.

God who sits upon the throne says, “Behold, I make all things new. Write these words for they are trustworthy and true. It is done! I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the fountain the water of life without payment. They who conquer shall have their heritage, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.” Amen.

What Kind of Glory & Grace Do You Want?

ISAIAH 53:4-12; MARK 10:35-45

Questions.  `There are no bad questions,’ is a comment we hear more and more.  For many of us, we sometimes can be insecure, and not even bother to ask.  Asking questions is how we find out what we need to know, how we let others know what we are looking for.  Of course, you must ask what you are going to do, if your question is answered, and what if you do not like the answer?  Today in Mark’s reading, Jesus’ followers ask, `When you come into your glory, Jesus, will you grant one of us to sit at your right and one at your left?’  `Do you know what you are asking?’  `Do you really want to know the answer?’  `Is this really the kind of glory you want?’  It is easy for the disciples, for us, to not always know what we are asking, yet we must never stop asking the Lord of our life questions.  As we continue to explore our net worth is truly in God’s grace alone, let us forever ask questions of the One who may not always have the answers we seek, yet abundantly blesses us to believe and to see Jesus is our Answer to more glory and grace than we could ever desire!

1. Questions are how we find out what we want to know.
Isaiah 53:5,6,7,8,etc; Mark 10:35-36

A. Sometimes we can be insecure and not even bother to ask the questions we seek answers to.

i. Sometimes people feel their questions are bad questions.

ii. Sometimes people feel they should already know the answer.

B. There is nothing wrong with asking.  We must never stop asking questions of the Lord.  Who else do you know who has all the answers, at least as many answers as there are for now?

2. Do you know what it is you want to ask?  What it is you want to know?  Do you know what you want?
Isaiah 53:10-11; Mark 10:35-38

A. Sometimes we do not know what we want or what we are looking for, so we do not know how to ask.

B. The disciples get a bad reputation from sharing their desire and asking their question.

i. At least they know what they want, and they ask for it.

ii. Perhaps in many respects, through most reflection, the disciples come off as selfish.  What is wrong with wanting glory, wanting to get as close as possible?

C. Jesus knows what he wants.  He is not afraid to ask.  What’s wrong with Jesus asking if we can drink the same cup, share the same baptism, be a servant of all, what kind of glory we really want, how close we really want to get, if we know our true net worth is in God’s grace, if we really want to believe and see?

3. We must never be afraid to ask questions, especially in our spiritual walk.  As we ask questions, as we hear Jesus asking us his questions, we will believe and see anew, Jesus is our Answer to more glory and grace than we could ever desire!
Isaiah 53:4-5,8,11; Mark 10:43-45

A. Jesus knows all there is to know about us.  In asking questions, he wants to see how we see ourselves, others, and our God?

B. As we make God and our neighbors first, let us boldly ask what it is we really want, desire, what we long to believe and to see?

C. Let us never be afraid to ask Jesus if we can come closer to him, come sit with him, discover more about ourselves and our God, to believe and see even more of what God is doing, more glory and grace and life and hope than we could ever desire!

Song of Glory & Grace

There Is None Like You

LeBlanc

refrain:
There is none like You
No one else
Can touch my heart like You do
I could search
For all eternity long and find
There is none like You

(repeat)

vs. 1
Your mercy flows like a river wide
And healing comes from Your hands
Suffering children are safe in Your arms
There is none like You

(refrain with repeat)

...as we pray to you, Jesus, ...
Bless us, to believe and see anew, your glory and your grace.

All these things and whatever else you see we need, grant to us we pray, for into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Holy Communion will take place during our service. If you are not worshipping with us in person but would like to receive Communion, we will be offering Drive Through Communion at our building at 16200 Dodd Lane, Lakeville, Minnesota, following our indoor service. Drive Through Communion will be available between 10:15am & 10:30am.

For those worshiping with us in person, we receive communion through intinction; that is, you will receive the bread, the host, then dip into the glass of choice, either a red wine in the chalice closest to the host, or in a light colored non-alcoholic grape juice. All are welcome.

We also offer gluten free and pre-packaged options. Please take these options before arriving at the host to receive a blessing.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Amen.

Let us pray.
Pour out upon us the spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of those whom you have fed with one heavenly food; through Jesus Christ, The Lord of life. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, as you believe and see, God’s glory and grace. In the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Let us go in the peace of Christ, celebrating the love of God, and serving the Lord of life.
Thanks be to God!

Going Anew in Glory & Grace

Shine, Jesus, Shine

Kendrick

Shine Jesus shine
Fill this land with
The Father’s glory
Blaze Spirit blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow river flow
Flood the nations
With love and mercy
Send forth your Word
Lord and let there be light

Of your love is shining
In the midst
Of the darkness shining

Of the world shine upon us
Set us free
By the truth you now bring us
Shine on me

On your kingly brightness
So our faces
Display your likeness
Ever changing
From glory to glory
Mirrored here
May our lives tell your story
Shine on me
Shine on me
