Worthy, You are worthy,
King of kings, Lord of lords,
You are worthy;
Worthy, You are worthy,
King of kings, Lord of lords,
I worship You.

Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart,
— Joel 2:12

Have you ever missed a bus? A connecting flight? Have you ever been late for a meeting? Have you ever arrived at church so late, you ask yourself, "Why bother?" Have you ever wondered if you and your life are "too late" to return to the One who is worthy, with all your heart, to be blessed in grace alone?

The prophet Joel writes for the people announcing: The day of the Lord is coming; It is time to change your ways; Where you have been standing will not stand up; The way you have been living is wrong; What you have been worshiping is not worthy, not the King of kings, not the Lord of lords; And yet, Joel writes, "Yet, even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart."

Lent is God's opportunity and gift given to you and to me. You and I might have strayed; we might have missed a bus or two along the way; the connecting flight might have felt like it left long ago; we might often feel like the meeting began long ago and we missed everything.

God's grace is timeless. Another bus is here: Lent. Another plane just pulled into the gate, going to the same place: The Christ. Another meeting is about to gather: God's people.

It is never too late to worship the One who is worthy, to worship The One who embodies grace. Yet even now, return to the One who already has come to you, in grace alone!

Let us pray: Lord today I tell you, I continue to miss so much along the way, and I worry if it is too late for me to be saved by your grace. I thank you and glorify you, you are always there to save me; you are forever worthy. By your Holy Spirit, yet even now, reveal to me again today, it is never too late for you to change my ways, for you to forgive my wrongs, for you to move me to return to you with all my heart. In your grace alone, I pray. Amen.
