“What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written, ‘See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’”
Today we continue the Third Week in Advent by taking a brief look at that classic story, "A Charlie Brown Christmas." This story reminds us the spirit of Christmas is not found in who plays what part in the play - it is The Story. The spirit of Christmas is not found in how perfect the tree or gifts are, it is about The Perfect One who came to give. The spirit of Christmas is not found simply in who we are, it is the gift of friendship and relationship with others, in the name of the One who came to be God with us. "Christmas time is here," Christ is here!
As the end of our Advent journey for this year approaches next week, through this carol and God's Word this Advent season, like the shepherds, those merry gentlemen who found comfort and joy, may we hear the comfort and joy in the spirit of Christmas this year. In these days, each day, as we long for Jesus’ promised return, may our hearts be filled with comfort and joy in the One who is a prophet and so much more!
Let us pray: Lord, today I tell you, I can sometimes limit the spirit and the joy of the season, to what part I play, to the tree and the gifts, to me. I can even limit you and your good news, to being a prophet, when I need so much more. Give me the comfort and joy, give me the faith given to the shepherds to know Christmas time is here, to believe and to celebrate true comfort and joy; for you are here, Christ is here! Amen.
