Light One Candle

Wold

Light four candles to watch for Messiah
Let the light banish darkness
He is coming tell the glad tidings
Let your lights be shining

Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
— Matthew 1:18

Do you know what tomorrow is? It is not just December 21. It is not just 4 shopping days before Christmas. It is not just the first day of winter. Tomorrow is the shortest day of the year in terms of daylight. There is something about this day, about the darkness. The very next day, there is again, more light!

When you are in the dark, any light, any source of light helps. And when it is really, really dark, any light makes a difference. Once you have even the tiniest bit of light, the littlest flicker at all; then you no longer are in complete darkness!

Where do you see God's light in your darkness, banishing your darkness? No matter how much darkness you feel surrounds you, where do you see God's slightest flicker, His tiniest bit of light?

Where are you being asked to be God's light source? How is God using you to banish the darkness someone else feels? How is God using you to let your light keep shining? Are you able to trust the tiniest bit of light as Mary and Joseph did? Are you able to trust the birth of Jesus has taken place in this way? Are you able to trust, thanks to The Light, each day brings a little more light, a little more comfort and joy?

Long ago, angels brought light in the way of good news and hope to Mary and Joseph and the shepherds, and the star brought light and direction to point the way for the wise men. God asks us in these days before Christmas, God calls us each day of our discipleship here on earth, to be like an angel and to be like a star! Long ago, The Lord needed a star, The Lord needed The Light to banish the darkness. Now The Lord needs us to be a light shining in someone else's darkness, so they know the darkness will not overcome them.

Let us pray: Lord, today I tell you, there is something about the darkness that calls out to me. I hear it calling to me. I follow. I can lose my way. I thank you and praise you that even in my darkest darkness, The Light breaks in and banishes my darkness. Even your tiniest bit of light wins out, and overcomes all the darkness that can overwhelm me. Keep my light shining, telling to all the glad tidings, you are comfort and joy, you are coming, you are here. In your Light I pray. Amen.
