You shall cross the barren desert
But you shall not die or thirst
You shall wander far in safety
Though you do not know the way
You shall speak your words in foreign lands
And all will understand
You shall see the face of God and live
Be not afraid
I go before you always
Come follow me
And I will give you rest

Jesus full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by The Spirit in the wilderness.
— Luke 4:1

Have you ever packed a box, and it is so full, there is not room for anything else? Have you ever packed a suitcase, and it is so full, you cannot get anything else in? Have you ever enjoyed a meal so much, you are so full, you cannot take even one more bite? To be full, is to have room for nothing else.

At times we can feel like the wilderness fills our lives in a way that leaves us ironically feeling empty, the wilderness so fills us, there is no room for calm, hope, breath, peace, grace.

Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit after being baptized. Believe you are so full of the Holy Spirit thanks to your baptism, there is no room for fear! Believe you are so full of the Holy Spirit, so full, there is no room for worry, no room for shame, no room for doubt, so full there is no room for you to be afraid no matter the wilderness, so full thanks to The One who has his heart on you! Believe The One who goes before you always, fills you with rest! Trust you are so full of all God's grace in Christ alone, God leaves room for nothing else!

Let us pray: Jesus, today I pray, fill me with your grace and power. I know I try to fill my days and my life with much that is empty. In baptism, you fill me with The Holy Spirit, and you leave me room for nothing else. Even in the midst of the wilderness, as you fill me with your power and presence, I fully believe there is no room to be afraid. In Jesus' name, I am full and I pray. Amen.
