And Jesus said
"Come to the water
Stand by my side
I know you are thirsty
You won't be denied
I felt every teardrop
When in darkness you cried
And I long to remind you
That for those tears I died"

You said you'd come
And share all my sorrows
You said you'd be there
For all my tomorrows
I came so close
To sending you away
But just like you promised
You came here to stay
I just had to pray

From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; but the people became impatient along the way. The people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we detest this miserable food.”
— Numbers 21:4-5

When you are thirsty, what is best at quenching that thirst? When you are hungry, what satisfies like no other?

What do you and your spirit thirst and hunger for? Acceptance. Truth. Forgiveness. Healing. Hope. Conviction. Commitment. Strength. Courage. Justice. Freedom. Change. Mission. Drive. Community. Self. Mercy. Grace. Christ alone!

God had blessed God's people and used Moses to free the slaves from Egypt. God had blessed God's people and led them across the Red Sea. God had blessed God's people, kept his heart on them, watched over them, protected them, led them through the wilderness into the Promised Land. God filled them to overflowing, and still the people were hungry and thirsty, hungry and thirsty for God, for peace and hope and certainty.

God thirsted for His people and sent his only Son; your thirst and hunger have been satisfied, you have not been denied! Today may you come to the water, may your every thirst be quenched, may you feel every tear drop, may you believe Jesus came to you and came here to stay!

Let us pray: Jesus, I often thirst for things of this world. Quench what my body and heart and spirit are hungry and thirsty for. Fill me to overflowing. By your Spirit, keep your heart on me. In Christ alone, I believe you thirst for me, I believe you long to remind me for those tears you died. Call me again to come to the water, and by your grace, I will never thirst again. In your name, my thirst is satisfied, and I pray. Amen.
