"I was there to hear your borning cry
I'll be there when you are old
I rejoiced the day you were baptized
To see your life unfold
I was there when you were but a child
With a faith to suit you well
In a blaze of light you wandered off
To find where demons dwell”

"When you heard the wonder of the Word
I was there to cheer you on
You were raised to praise the living Lord
To whom you now belong
If you find someone to share your time
And you join your hearts as one
I'll be there to make your verses rhyme
From dusk till rising sun”

"In the middle ages of your life
Not too old no longer young
I'll be there to guide you through the night
Complete what I've begun
When the evening gently closes in
And you shut your weary eyes
I'll be there as I have always been
With just one more surprise"

"I was there to hear your borning cry
I'll be there when you are old
I rejoiced the day you were baptized
To see your life unfold"

For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to we who are being saved it is the power of God.
— 1 Corinthians 1:18

Halfway points offer a variety of meanings, expectations, emotions, and opportunities. Halfway points can leave us thinking, we are almost there, we are on the downhill slide, it is time to get by, it is time to finish strong, it is time to re-energize, it is time to find what it takes, it is time to make adjustments.

Today is Lent Day 21. Lent has 40 days. Today marks the first day of the second half. The halfway point has come and gone. Are you thinking, we are on the downhill slide, or are you thinking, it is time to make adjustments, to finish strong?

To many, the cross may seem foolish, and yet Jesus came to finish strong what God in grace had begun. During Lent, every day of life, for all eternity, trust The One who was there to hear your borning cry, keeps his heart on you, and will do whatever it takes, forever and as long as it takes, to journey with you, to have you live strong each day blessed by God's overflowing grace in Christ alone.

Let us pray: Jesus, today I ask you for help and grace at this halfway point in my Lenten journey. As the second half of the Lenten season begins, do not let me slide. As you once heard my borning cry, send me your Holy Spirit. Hear my cry. Keep overflowing me in your grace alone, for I believe you are not done with me. Keep your heart on me. Keep me faithful, and make every adjustment in my spirit, so I may finish strong everything you have me do to make God and my neighbors first. In your name I will not stop praying. Amen.
