“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Do you have any locks around your house that unlock by themselves? Do you have any windows or doors that open all by themselves? How about your cars? Do they open and start on their own - without the use of technology?
If you have been wondering why you have not been able to open yourself to The Christ or why you have not been able to unlock the gift of faith further and further in your journey, or even why you have not been able to keep your heart on Christ alone, maybe you have been trying to do it on your own.
The Holy Spirit opens us. We cannot open ourselves to the Spirit! 'This is not our own doing!' 'We can boast about nothing!' 'This is the gift of God!' The Spirit opens us. The Spirit unlocks us, starts us up, opens us to believe, and keeps our hearts on The One who keeps his compassionate heart on us! By God's grace alone in Christ's death and resurrection, and The Spirit's daily power, we have indeed had done what we could not do ourselves, we have been saved and given the gift of faith in Christ alone!
Let us pray: Jesus, today I tell you I want to give myself faith. I try to open my eyes and heart and spirit to you, I try to keep my heart on you, all by myself, on my terms; and I fail. Open me. Unlock me. Keep your heart on me. Give me faith. I surrender to you. I cannot do what you can do. By God's grace alone and through your Spirit, I boast only in you, I need you, I believe! In your name and by your doing, I pray. Amen.
