Oh, Come, Oh, Come, Emmanuel
Helmore
Oh come oh come Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice
Rejoice
Emmanuel
Shall come to you O Israel
“The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.”
Have you ever had someone break a promise to you? How did that feel?
As we begin our Advent journey, we remember long ago the prophets foretold a Messiah would come, and God sent Jesus.
After Jesus was raised from the dead, he told his followers he would come back one day.
God keeps his promises.
God promised a Messiah. God promises Jesus will return.
Believe joy to the world and joy in our own lives comes in this truth: Advent is a season of promise and hope as we live today, trusting indeed the days are surely coming, says The Lord, heaven and nature will sing again in the glory of Jesus' promised return! Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel, shall come to you again!
How can we be sure? God always fulfills and keep his promises!
Let us pray: Almighty God, we thank you for sending Jesus, your Messiah, our Messiah, The Messiah. Help us this Advent season to wait for the days that are surely coming, just as you promised, when heaven and nature will sing in full glory. Thank you, blessed Emmanuel, for always keeping your promises. Amen.
