Rejoice, Rejoice, Believers

Laurenti

Rejoice rejoice believers
And let your lights appear
The evening is advancing
And darker night is near
The bridegroom is arising
And soon is drawing nigh
Up pray and watch and wrestle
At midnight comes the cry

Then Jesus told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
— Luke 21:29-32

Occasionally during these Advent devotions, I will recall a secular Christmas story to see if it has anything to offer our walk in Christ.

As we wait for the first significant snow of the season each year, I am reminded of "Frosty, The Snowman." The children love their friend and want to do whatever they can to make him last forever. The story of Frosty includes this promise: even though he melts and goes away, put two and two together, when you see the first snow of the season, know Frosty will come back again one day.

As Christians, we believe The Christ is with us forever, and that every day, Jesus is preparing every heart to make him room for the day he comes back.

His first disciples were sad when Jesus left them, and yet, Jesus promised he would return.

As the disciples of today, let us serve and glorify Christ to prepare Him room, to make Him known.

May others be filled with awe as they see us put two and two together and believe Christ is here! Let us proclaim: Jesus may have come and gone, but God's grace will indeed last forever, his words will never pass away, the Kingdom has come near, heaven and nature sing, and Christ will come back again one day.

Let us pray: God of faithfulness, as we wait for your promised return, let us do whatever we can to prepare Him room, to tell others that you, Jesus, are here, now and forever. As we hold fast to your Word that will never go away, as we put two and two together, let us believe The Holy Spirit is by our side, filling us with faith. May we rejoice with all believers, as heaven and nature sing, trusting your power and presence and grace. Amen.
