What Child Is This
Dix
What child is this who laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet
While shepherds watch are keeping
This this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing
Haste haste to bring him laud
The babe the son of Mary
As we began the third week of Advent yesterday, we lit the Shepherd's Candle, the pink candle, the candle of joy.
The shepherds, while watch were keeping, were blessed to hear The Good News of the greatest joy.
In the midst of their every day and every night routines, God announced to them what Child this is, God gave the gift of salvation.
As we make our way through our every day routines, as we ponder and pray where our strength will come in the midst of our fear and exhaustion and doubt, as we question whether or not we are ready to receive The Good News; let us be awe struck by the joy that is ours here and now as we wait for Christ's return.
"This, this is Christ The King!"
Trust as God visited the shepherds with the help of the angels, trust God is still breaking into our nights and days with his angels and messengers to repeat the sounding joy of This Child and the gift of salvation!
Let us pray: Almighty God, you alone are The One who is more powerful than any of us. You alone have come to us in this Child, Jesus, to usher in the gift of salvation. Whenever we doubt ourselves and your kingdom, break into our daily routines; how we long to hear heaven and nature sing. As you shower us with grace upon grace, hold us fast, then send us like shepherds to repeat the sounding joy: This, this is Christ The King! In the promise and hope and joy of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
