Have you ever heard an awesome story, breaking news, and you could not wait to share it
You had to find someone as quickly as you could. You had to stop what you were doing, pick up the phone, and pass it along.
As you told someone, did you become even more excited and emotional as you told the story or news, as others focused on you, listening to your every word, as they could not wait to hear it all?
Has this ever happened to you? When did this last happen for you?
The shepherds were out in their fields, keeping watch over their flocks. They heard the news, and went with haste, to see for themselves, Jesus, and they also went to tell Mary and others, 'all that had been told to them.'
As they went along, the shepherds repeated the sounding joy!
John the Baptist had others thinking he was the Messiah, but he had big news to tell, "I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I is coming." John the Baptist went throughout the region, repeating the sounding joy, sharing with one and all this breaking news!
The shepherds were the first ones to hear The Good News of the greatest joy!
Like the shepherds, like the children we will be blessed by this morning, let us go out and live in the joy of the news repeated to us! Like the shepherds, like the children today, let us go out into the fields and to those around us, and tell others all that has been made known to us in the One who is more powerful than any of us!
The Savior reigns! Let others see in us a spirit that cannot wait to repeat the sounding joy!
Let us pray: Jesus, today I ask you to renew in me the spirit to go like the children we hear today, and repeat the sounding joy of your power, the joy and hope of my baptism and life I have in you, the joy of your grace, and the joy of your promised return. You are the best news of all! I cannot wait to have you send me out as your child, to go like John The Baptist and the shepherds to tell others, to see others as they hear heaven and nature sing! Amen.
