Do You Hear What I Hear?

Regney & Shayne

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear

(Do you hear what I hear)
Ringing thru the sky, shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear

(Do you hear what I hear)
A song, a song
High above the tree
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see ...”
— Matthew 11:4

Do you know people who are able to teach themselves certain skills? It is amazing to watch. Some people can just naturally pick up something new, and get the hang of it. Some people can read something or hear something, and jump right in. Self-taught people are quite gifted. With that said, there are still plenty of things one cannot teach one's self. Some things are just better learned or comprehended or discovered or explained or heard from another. We all need a little help along the way.

Who taught you your abc's? Who helped you understand the concept of gravity? Who helped you discuss that life is not always fair? Who explained to you, that some things sometimes are not explainable?

Jesus spoke comfort and joy to John the Baptist's disciples. He told them to go and tell John, "Tell him you hear what you hear. Tell John, you know it sounds like a little lamb talking to a shepherd boy, but it is true, even if it may not sound right, possible, explainable, logical. Tell John, this concept of grace, cannot be self taught!"

Trust anew, Jesus does for you what you cannot do yourself! This Christmas and while you wait for Christ's return, hear anew; Jesus is forever speaking comfort and joy to you!

Let us pray: God of truth, I do not always hear what others have to say, I do not always even hear what you are telling me to hear and see, and yet, I cannot teach or give to myself your grace. Jesus, as you spoke to John's disciples, speak to me again. Send others with your Holy Spirit to announce to me, tidings of comfort and joy! Use your witnesses, use me, to go and tell, to announce your comfort and joy for all to hear! Amen.
