Our finest gifts we bring

To lay before the King

So to honor Him

When we come

When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus.
— Matthew 1:24-25

How many invitations have you received this holiday season? Where have you been invited to? Have you been able to go to many "get-togethers"? Has timing, or scheduling gotten in the way? Have you maybe said "yes" maybe said "no" because of how well you know the person? Have you ever been unsure as to how well you know the person? Have you ever been told by way of a mutual friend that the person who sent you the invitation, really wants you to come, really hopes you are able to come? How did that feel, especially if when you first received the invitation, you thought, "Oh, I don't know"?

Guess Who is inviting you to the biggest "get-together" this season?  Guess Who is hoping you will be there? Guess Who really, really wants you to come? Guess Who has sent you mutual friend upon mutual friend through the centuries, in these days, to tell you how much you are desired to be in attendance?

Guess Who sent an angel to Joseph to tell him all that was going to take place! Guess Who sent the angel with comfort and joy to Joseph to tell him how God was planning an "eternal get-together" and that Joseph was really, really invited to be part of it! Guess Who sent the angel to Joseph to give him faith to answer the invitation, to come as he was told, to bring his finest gifts of who he was, to lay before God his humble self, to honor God above all others, to go and do all the angel of the Lord commanded, taking Mary as his wife, caring for her as she gave birth to God's Son, and naming him, Jesus!

No guessing necessary! "You Know Who" is inviting you, calling you, gracing you, too!

Let us pray: Lord I am sorry I do not always say, "yes" when you call. I sometimes check first to see if time will allow me to make time for you; I sometimes check my schedule to see if making you and others first will be in any way inconvenient; I sometimes am very careful to not do anything that feels too uncomfortable. Increase my faith this Advent and Christmas season, in these days of waiting and watching. Send me your Holy Spirit, your comfort and joy, your blessed presence, and I will come, and I will play my best for you, so to honor you! Amen.
