My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
No merit of my own I claim
But wholly lean on Jesus' name
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

For Jews demand signs, and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.
— 1 Corinthians 1:22-23

Here is a fun little test. Read these old slogans and see if you can remember the product, service, or group that was being advertised. The answers are below:

"I'm lovin' it!" "Eat fresh." "More saving. More doing." "Expect more. Pay less." "These guys are good!" "This is __________ territory!"

Slogans hope their messages become associated with a product, to make the service or group or product attractive and memorable and desirable. Some of the best advertising and marketing campaigns make clear in a few words not only the value of a product, but also the over-riding mission or vision of the company or organization.

"We proclaim Christ crucified." "On Christ the solid rock I stand." Pretty simple words. A pretty clear message. Words that have withstood the test of time. Words which make clear who Christ is, Christ's faithfulness, Christ's saving mission, who we are as followers, and Who we build our hope on. What could be more attractive, memorable or desirable! Words like these, express quite clearly the overflowing grace of The One who keeps his heart on us!

Let us pray: Jesus, I praise you for your overflowing heart and grace. Your message is clear. The cost of this product, this gift, this service has indeed already been paid. Christ crucified, the solid Rock, Christ alone, is Who I remember, Who I desire, Who is my hope, Who touches and overflows my heart. All you give is so priceless, I stand on no other, and I proclaim only this: Christ crucified! In Christ alone, I pray. Amen.

The answers to today's little test: McDonalds, Subway, Home Depot, Target, The PGA - The Professional Golfers' Association, The Minnesota Twins.
